Wasting 40 minutes on a Sunday night trying to return something that’s due tomorrow to RMIT library. There’s either no after-hours return chute (the directions on the website are super-vague), or it’s just impossible to find. The library’s on something like the fourth floor of a huge building with multiple entrances, which doesn’t help. It’s pretty rare for me to get into the city when I’m not working, so pretty annoying to miss two trains home and have to try again tomorrow.

Looks pretty clear to me

Trouble is, building 8 has several entrances! But I found the returns chute today; doesn’t help that level 2 is actually the ground level and that the entrance up the stairs on the other side is level 3!?

Laughing Laughing Laughing

At ground level, and a fair way up, buildings 8, 10 and 12 are all one building and yeah, floor numbering is all over the shop. Laughing

Oh.... But don't they still charge for an alumnus account? (Not that that would be an insurmountable barrier, but ...) If they give you lifetime access for free, that's great.

This fkn weather, if it was a person it would be restrained in a high dependencey unit on medication. I know it's good for the fires and we badly need rain, but not over Melbourne FFS.

If it wasn't for the fires I'be contacting God's IT department and ask them to uninstall January 20230 weather as it's clearly got bugs in it and re-install January 2019 weather where the lowest daily max temp was 21

I know mandatory sentencing means he will probably get 15 years tops but that %$^%$£$% in the 4WD should never see anything but steel bars and concrete again, no bed no tv just the cold hard reality of what he he has done

^ Mandatory sentencing is more about minimums than maximums, but I would be surprised if he gets more than that, yes. Certainly a horrific tragedy.

Actually if he has a shred of a decent bone in his body he won’t wake up tomorrow and will save the families more grief. Failing that a little slow and painful jailhouse justice should suffice

Why is your response to tragedies like this always so vengeful? I really don’t think his suicide would help the family in any way (and yes, he may well be a suicide risk at this point in time). He presumably has a family too who will suffer regardless of what happens to him. Drink-driving is a terrible decision that is rightly punished, but it’s also one that many people, including people who post here, have made without killing anyone (and speaking more broadly, we’ve probably all done dangerous things on the road that could have had tragic consequences). In some ways – presuming this wasn’t in any way deliberate or malicious – he got unlucky (though not as unlucky as his victims, needless to say). He’ll still do the time for it and have to live with this for the rest of his life. That’s sufficient.

The answer to death and suffering can’t be more death and suffering. Let justice take its course; the family would presumably prefer to grieve and move on at this point. They probably won’t even have to attend court if they don’t want to (perhaps I’m wrong, but I doubt they would be required to provide evidence given the circumstances).

I have no time for anyone who chooses to drink drive, unlucky? The only people out of luck are the innocents on the footpath. He made his own luck when he chose to drive drunk, so drunk he was so out of control he drive into the footpath I’m guessing at a fair speed. He can rot in hell
