Post subject: Collingwood in Finals | Favourites vs UnderdogsReply with quote

If you want to see how the Collingwood Football Club handles pressure in big finals, check out this sorry list of results when we are favourites vs underdogs over the past 20 years.

Something MUST change! It’s getting ridiculous. The weight of expectation, and the weight of 90% of people hoping for your demise, must weigh heavily. How else can you explain these ridiculous stats? We either embrace it, change the mentality of the club, or run scared and continue to piss away opportunities. The new ‘love in’ attitude has worked to an extent, but until we bring back some ‘c***iness’ and a flex our superiority (whether real or manufactured), we’ll continue to fail and be ridiculed by those that fear us winning.

2002 QF @ Port | Underdogs
Win for the ages

2002 GF vs Bris. | Underdogs
Nearly pinch it

2003 QF vs Bris. | Underdogs
Win

2003 GF vs. Bris | Favourites
Get belted

2006 EF vs Bulldogs | Favourites
Lose convincingly

2007 EF @ WC | Underdogs
Win in ET (yes, WC were missing their big 3 midfielders, but we were never expected to win)

2007 Preliminary Final vs Geel. | Underdogs
Nearly pinch it

2008-09 mostly goes to plan in terms of winning and losing the games you’re meant to win and lose.

2010 GF vs StK. | Favourites
Escape with a draw after cruising, before winning convincingly the following week

2011 Finals Series | Favourites throughout
QF: Barely get over WC
PF: Escape with a final quarter blitz vs Haw. after a tragic first 3 quarters
GF: Lay an egg after HT vs Geel.

2013 EF vs Port. | Favourites
Lose in stunning fashion after seemingly cruising to victory

2018 QF @ WC | Underdogs
Nearly pull off a miracle upset after leading by 2-3 goals at 3/4 time

2018 EF vs GWS | Favourites
After a 20-0 start, relinquish the lead and struggled to hold GWS at bay, winning by 10 behinds

2018 PF vs Rich. | Underdogs
Stun Richmond and the football world with a win for the ages

2018 GF vs WC | Favourites
Lead 30-1 after 20 minutes before pissing away another premiership

2019 QF vs Geel. | Underdogs
Win (lead 46-10 before holding on for dear life in the final quarter)

2019 PF | Favourites
Despite a miracle fast finish, debacle third quarter ends the season vs a team missing 4 of their very best players
