Smith's saying Boof had nothing to do with what happened. However, he's admitted he knew about it and that the leadership group and the players talked about it during the lunch break.

Presser: Bancroft and Smith.

He's still responsible. He's in charge of the team. They should all be sent straight home and a replacement team and officials sent back to take their place, whatever the cost. This is unacceptable. None of these people should be allowed to represent Australia again, ever. Or Victoria.

Not if only Smith and the players were involved.

Smith's attitude, in the presser, means he doesn't see the gravity of the situation. Mentioning such as "regrettable but we'll learn from it and move on" as if he's just been a 'naughty boy'. Sad

Which is part of the reason why people are dropping off in droves.

Is there a very recently retired batsman with captaincy experience? Adam V. is already over there. How long retired is he?

That's one possible approach to finding an untainted interim captain just to end the tour with.

Oh dear, I just saw John Buchanan waffling in the same old management-speak on the news... Sigh...

If all players were involved, as Smith intimated, none of them could replace him, as captain.

IF Peter Handscomb wasn't involved - and it's a big IF - he's the obvious choice, having captained Victoria.

Other than that option, if it's going to be mass sackings, Travis Head could well be the next Oz captain.

Other State skippers are: Q'land - Jimmy Peirson, first year captain. NSW - Moises Henriques, Victoria - Peter Handscomb, WA - Mitch Marsh, Tas - George Bailey.

Of those, Bailey could be called upon, in a similar way to how Bob Simpson was recalled, to captain, in the wake of WSC. Henriques has captained NSW for a few seasons, now.

One from left field could be Matt Wade - successful Vic. captain, experienced Test 'keeper and in super form, with 3 recent centuries.

Smith and Warner have agreed to stand down as captain and vice captain for the rest of this Test.

No mention of who will replace them.
