given that Tom boyd is slightly superflous to their needs, i think getting griffen and pick 6 for Boyd is a great get for GWS.

Of course, its also a great pick up for Footscray who really need a KPP desparately and Boyd seems very much a Jonathan Brown calibre forward.

If GWS do this right, they might end up with Griffen and Petracca running around in their midfield for years to come.

It's too early to determine who's the winner of this trade.

In the short term, I think Griffen will be a very good prospect for the Giants who need experience to lead their youngsters. It's likely that pick 6 will be a good player for them as well so they've done well in this regard.

The Bulldogs have taken a massive risk on recruiting Tom Boyd and signing him on an average of $1,000,000 a year. If Boyd lives up to expectations the Bulldogs will be laughing for a whole decade as they've always struggled in developing key forwards in the past but if he doesn't live up to expectation then this could backfire on the Bulldogs greatly.

Also, we need to consider how Boyd getting paid $1,000,000 could affect the payments of other young players in the future who will inevitably demand pay rises like Bontempelli, Stringer, Hrovat and Liberatore for example. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming years.

I say it's win-win and anything that happens in the future won't change that. Judging trades in hindsight is unfair.

GWS need to improve now. Griffen helps them do that and they still get to bring in a rookie with pick 6.

The Dogs have desperately needed a target forward for a long time, now they have one. They lose a 29 year old who, whilst their captain, was not going to be a part of their next premiership (ok, attempt at one). The deal makes absolute sense for them in football terms and additionally is a major win for their brand.

I think it's a win-win, Boyd was going to leave next year anyway and they may have had to take unders, Griffen wanted out and Boyd is exactly the type the Doggies need, I do think the Doggies are taking a massive risk with the reported size and length of the contract though considering they're banking on his potential to become a good player rather than him being proven.

The Bulldogs have come out on top imo.

Griffin has always been overrated as a supposed top midfielder. He's a good player, but not a star. And now he's 29 yrs. He's way past his best and his best was never fantastic.
