Match Review round 2 - By Johnson#26

In a crucial match for both clubs, Collingwood prevailed over the Western Bulldogs by 9 points in a thrilling contest. The Doggies got off to a flyer with 5 goals before the Pies could put through their 1st. Tarrant peppered the goals early but could only regeister 3 behinds. Finally, Josh fraser slotted the Pies 1st from a tight angle on the boundry line. The Bulldogs replied straight away through Bowden but just before 1/4 time, Rocca slotted his 1st goal since the 2003 Preliminary Final.
The Pies went to the brake full of momentum after the Rocca goal but it was the Bulldogs who again started the better and soon let by 32 points midway through the 2nd quarter when the game began to change. The Pies intencity lifted and players such as Rocca, Tarrant and Fraser began to make the Bulldogs defenders look very small and weak. Johnson continued to charge out of defence and Wakelin held up the fort across half back with some fine marks and fists to the boundry line. The Pies went back into the rooms in a sombre mood as they learnt that the promicing 1st gamer Tom Davidson had tragicly injured his knee for the 2nd time in 2 years which ended his season.
In the 3rd quarter the pies came out all guns blazing with Burns becoming king of the clearances and Guy Richards showing promice in the ruck. Holland and Fraser added goals before Matt Lokan won the ball on the 50 metre line and goaled with a huge long bomb which signalled the Pies were a big chance for victory. Both teams traded goals as the quarter wore on until the Dogs went in to the 3/4 time hudddle 2 points up.
The Pies dug deep throughout the last 1/4 and with Rocca on fire, the Pies won by 9 points. The dogs still had oppotunitys to win up until 3 minutes to go when Rawlings marked twice but couldn't convert.

Player Review:

Tarrant: 8/10 - Back in form and could have had 6 or 7 goals had he kicked straight.

Buckley: 7.5/10 - Another Buckley like game with 24 touches and 4 clearances.

Fraser: 8.5/10 - BOG and did every-thing asked of him. Showed alot.

Burns: 7.5/10 - After a quiet 1st half, Burns exploded in the 3rd quarter with 8 touches and 9 clearances. Terrific game.

Wakelin: 6.5/10 - Great early and held the backline together all day.

Woewodin: 6/10 - Good solid game and stood up when the game was there to be won.

Davis: 6.5/10 - GREAT game! This is the Magic we want to see. Davis charging in to packs and emerging with the ball was some-thing we all have hoped for.

Johnson: 6/10 - Good all day and never stopped running.

Holland: 5/10 - Always there or there abouts and crumbed brilliantly for a great goal in the 3rd quarter.

Clement: 5.5/10 - Cool and calm all day.

Rocca: 7/10 - Great return to AFL footy. Took strong marks, kicked 4 great goals and put in a great game. Well done.

Didak: 4/10 - Floated in and out of the game without ever having a huge influence.

Licuria: 5/10 - Tried hard but couldn't get into the game.

Lokan: 5.5/10 - Much improved effort compared to last week with 2 goals. Good game.

Cole: 5.5/10 - Seemed to get better as the game wore on. Didn't fumble as much as usural.

Prestigiacomo: 5.5/10 - Battled manfully against Rawlings. Never gave up.

Lonie: 5.5/10 - Much better than last week. Looked good running off half-back and chased with intencity. Could be the 3rd tall defender?

O'Bree: 4/10 - Better than last week but still has more improvement left in him.

Richards: 3.5/10 - Looked good and will get more game time as the year progresses. Looks the goods.

Cloke: 1.5/10 - Did little and looks out of sorts. Could be heading back to Willi soon.

Davidson: 2/10 - Looked great until he did his knee. Some-thing to look forward to.

Nixon: 0.5/10 - Not the best debut but only 17 minutes on ground.

Next week we face the Lions. Lets smash their heads in and give 'em a football lesson. GO PIES!!
