Collingwood vs Bulldogs: Match Review - Ed from WA

The battle between the two most wasteful sides in the history of football took place under the roof of telstra ice skating stadium. The game lived up to all its expectations. The umpiring out did expectations and was worse than one thought possible.

Kevin Bartlett is the only commentator that agrees with the holding the ball rules in ruck play and general play. Why? Because they are his rules. The interpretations of those silly rules are killing the enjoyment of footy for me.

In the end, Footscray were worse than us, but we still hold on to the title of worst kicks at goal, by the skin of our teeth.

Some posters on Nick's BB have argued that the pies should lay down for a draft pick. However, Footscray are proof that draft picks dont fix problems. At the Pies, we have an abundance of youth on the list already and the senior stars, Buckley, Burns, Wakelin, Clement, Rocca, Woey, Presti have probably 3 years at the top level left at best. The window of opportunity is closed this year and it will not reopen just with one draft pick. Pick 5, instead of pick 9, doesn't make the big difference.

Essentially, the blokes we have need skill implants. Already the first few picks are gone anyway and they are the ones that are most sought after.

Moreover, MM cant afford to tell the players to lie down for several reasons. We must see how the players go in the last 6 rounds to see who to keep and who to sack. Losing creates bad habits and we have enough of them already. The last quarter showed that the players have pride in the jumper and we ran over the almost worst side in the league, as we should have.

Good signs were, the continued great fwd work by josh. I expect he could play CHF, if we had a ruck to back Guy Richards up, next year. That's why we should give Crow a run.

Our game plan makes me cringe, on Saturday night, so many times all the backs flew, and at times, three Bulldogs crumbed our spoils all alone. Our fwd entry is abominable, and our finishing is worse. Rhyce was ok on Johnson, though a bit lucky as Johnson fumbled a few times when first to the ball.

Walker was no good in defence and can't kick straight up fwd. King did some nice things, but not enough. Lokan should be traded. Lonie could play wing and kick goals each week. We must try things out.

In the end, if we are not having a go and taking the tanking method for 6 weeks who would bother going to the games? The club would lose money and members.

The only way to see what we have got, is to try.

I reckon, once the senior players 3 yrs are up, it will be time to start all over again.
