After spending three years at Tigerland, McKee came to Collingwood
in 2000 to help support young ruckman Josh Fraser. McKee’s
season never really got off the ground in 2000, as he battled injury
and illness.
2001 saw Collingwood and McKee improve, as he provided support for
Fraser in the ruck and held his own around the ground. But McKee’s
luckiest break came on the eve of 2002, when Fraser went down with
ostitis pubis.
McKee was summoned to be the stand in ruckman while Fraser recovered.
However, McKee was so good that he became the number one ruckman
in his own right.
McKee rucked courageously in the finals series but couldn’t
overcome Lion Clark Keating as the Pies lost the big one by nine
points.
2003 was a horror year for McKee, who lost the number one ruck position
when the ruck rules were changed. He played no part in the Finals
series and by 2004 was on the outer. His 2004 season was a disaster.
After playing the first match, McKee was dropped, never to be seen
again. Midseason, McKee broke his toe at Williamstown and missed
three weeks.
