Lonie came to the club at the end of 2000 in the National Draft
at pick number 34. He immediately shone through with his skill and
run from the backline early in his career. After being a late replacement
in round one, Lonie only missed one more game - through a shoulder
injury in round 22.
Lonie impressed with his penetrating kicking and silky skills. His
best game came in round five against Essendon, where his run off
half back was vital in the sides good showing. 2002 wasn't Lonie's
best year, as he suffered from the dreaded ostitis pubis. Although
he was quiet in the regular season, Lonie was fantastic in the finals
series - being one of the
side's best in September.
2003 was a terrible year for Lonie, who never really got going.
Late in the year, Lonie struggled with the illness and later death
of his father. Lonie was another player to be a target of debate
during the trade period.
2004 was an average year for Lonie, who after a slow start began
to fire midway through the season when tried on the wing and also
up forward.
