After being picked up late in the 2001 National Draft, Swan spent
the whole of the 2002 season at Williamstown, gaining valuable experience.
2003 was much of the same for Swan, who broke through for three
games midway through the year.
2004 was a real break through season for Swan, who played his first
game against Brisbane in round three and never looked back. His
composure and skill were valuable assets to the Pies defence as
he cemented his place in the side. After a good showing against
Carlton in round seven, Swan had a quiet patch midway through the
year and was dropped for round 10.
