After being selected in the 1997 National Draft, Kinnear made his
debut midway through 1998.
He played both forward and back without settling. He coasted through
1999 and 2000 without really making an impression.
2001 was a crunch year for Kinnear who played well enough to keep
his spot on the list for 2002.
2002 was a dirty year for Kinnear, who played against Carlton in
round three, where he made many mistakes and was dropped for round
4, not to be seen for the rest of the season.
Although he was an emergency for the Grand Final, it was almost
as if the coaching staff had forgotten him.
2003 was Kinnear's best season, playing the majority of the year
as the third tall forward. After getting a run in round 6, Kinnear
reappeared in round 14 and only missed
three games for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
After a good Preliminary Final against Port Adelaide, Kinnear had
a dismal Grand Final with only 3 possessions. At the season's end,
Kinnear signed a 2 year deal, keeping him at the club until 2005.
2004 was an awful year for Kinnear, who rarely got a look in as
Cameron Cloke
sped past him for the third tall forward position. His final game
was round 8 against a resurgent St.Kilda. Kinnear only picked up
5 disposals and was dropped for the final time. At season’s
end, Kinnear retired, with 50 games under his belt. Good luck with
whatever the future holds, Ben.
