This year i am unhappy because Sydney are playing Melbourne at the SCG and i know its in sydney but anzac day is our special day and only the best 2 sides should play on anzac day even though essendscums crap lol and last year Melbourne were whining wanting an anzac day match and the mongrels got their wish. Even though its in sydney i still think it forever should only be Collingwood vs Essendscum on anzac day.
What do you all think???

let sydney have their little anzac day celebrations...the nation will watch the big one. We have a tradition that people will want to watch. The sydney game will be a flop.

Will I think you're getting a little carried away. I don't think there is anything else that would possibly rival the MCG Anzac day game (on that day), as if sydney can compete (not even if they ALL got free tics). As much as I hate to say it, the bummers have a big following and of course we do, so I don't believe that any other teams should play at the G on that day. They have tried in the past and it was never successful (I'll dig up the stats later). When the two powerhouse clubs adopted that day, well as they say, history. No way would any other clubs be able to generate the attendances that the current two can.

Ok dug up a few stats (as far back as I could be bothered), here we go.

1986: Melbourne, Sydney: North Melbourne, Geelong: 40 117: MCG (double header)
1986: Carlton, Essendon: 68 151: Waverley Park

1987: Richmond, Sydney: 22 154: MCG
1987: Hawthorn, West Coast: 11 068: Princes Park
1987: Collingwood, Footscray: 22 039: Victoria Park
1987: Carlton, Essendon: 56 124: Waverley Park

1988: Richmond, Geelong: 27 417: MCG
1988: St Kilda, Essendon: 31 679: Moorabbin

1989: Carlton, Essendon: 31 492: Princes Park
1989: Hawthorn, Richmond: 41 347: Waverley Park

1990: Carlon, Footscray: 23 954: Princes Park
1990: Richmond, Fitzroy: 23 078: MCG

1991: North Melbourne, Sydney: 15 644: MCG
1991: Melbourne, Collingwood: 55 735: Waverley Park

1992: Essendon, Melbourne: 41 405: MCG
1992: Carlton, St Kilda: 34 784: Princes Park
1992: Hawthorn, Collingwood: 72 765: Waverley Park

1993: Brisbane Bears, Geelong: 12 996: Gabba
1993: St Kilda, Carlton: 51 211: Waverley Park
1993: Melbourne, Adelaide: 17 011: MCG

1994: No Anzac Day game

1995: Collingwood, Essendon: 94 285: MCG

etc, etc, etc.

Notice a common theme. No, I mean that if any bitchmond supporter dares say that they should play on that day they should STFU.

It should be just the Pies and the Dons because that was the tradition @ first and now the AFL gave it away on us the pricks they will take anything away from the PIES!

IE: The 2002 Grand Final!

I think it should always be Collingwood vs Essendon and perhaps another game at the Telstra Dome maybe between the Saints and Hawks as the Hawks are always sooking that they don't get a game on Anzac Day.
Next year Anzac Day falls on a Saturday and the Afl will have to have probably 3 games.

I think we could play another game on Anzac Day. Say, Brisbane v. Carlton .... at Alice Springs.

I agree that Anzac Day should stay Essendon V Collingwood. Back in 95 when both clubs decided to make it a permanent fixture, no-one else put their bloody hands up then did they?

It has proven to be one of the most anticipated matches on the fixture each year and is mostly always a sell out and pretty much is a great contest between two of the most popular sides in the competition.

Let other teams have their whinge, if they did decide to change it around from year to year and say had Richmond V St Kilda, or something similar, they'd be lucky to get 40,000.

The only reason why i can think of why there is 2 ANZAC DAY matches is because finally two other teams have shut up about how Collingwood get every blockbuster in the known universe and pulled their fingers out and the AFL organised another match. btw, did u notice who beat Melbourne today? Geelong, yet another team we beat one week and the next week they win.

This is to the other teams, the only reason why collingwood matches are often called blockbusters is because we draw big crowds!!!!!!.

Err we don't actually own the day - it belongs to the diggers. So anyone who wants to should be able to play, as they did before the drawn game whenever it was.

Chill.

I agree with Penshurst Pie, let's not forget the reason we have an Anzac Day at all. The game is big, but it's secondary to what Anzac Day means. I hope the future generation don't just think of a Collingwood/Essendon match when they think of Anzac Day, I hope they think of the real meaning of it. So it doesn't really matter how many games are on that day, as long as the spirit and memory of all those who fought in all the wars is upheld

And yes, i'll be at the dawn service and then marching to the shrine and then going to the match...that's my tradition for Anzac Day and i wouldn't have it any other way.

Ok...off my soapbox now.

I don't have a problem with the night game on ANZAC Day this year, it's good. We should have a game on every Friday night besides Good Friday. I remember a few years ago Freo use to play at night on ANZAC Day.

ANZAC Day is going the fall on the weekend the next few years so we;re gonna hvae no choice but to share the day. You have to have more than 2 games on Saturday or Sunday, so there is gonna be a clash. Play a game in Adelaide, one in Perth. Lets not be overly greedy.

Everyother club whinges about wanting to get their "slice of the pie" so to speak, but whoelse could manage to consistantly fill the 'G up on a regular basis. NOBODY. Let the Swines & D's have their game in Sydney on ANZAC Day & we'll see who comes out with the support.

Geez, I wonder who it will be...?

Keep the tradition, PIES V BUMMERS - ANZAC Day Forever!!!

Those who are going to the game, show a bit of respect & be QUIET when the last post is playing...
