Valiant, but didn't take our chances in front of goal. |

For what it's worth, these are my thoughts. Remember that we had a five day turn around and had to travel to Brisbane, being delayed on the flight. No excuses, but I thought that midway through the third term we looked very tired and seemed to lack legs. Glad to see we kept at it and we never looked completely beaten, especially with those goals in "Red time".
Eight days until Essendon, and frankly, I think we need the break. |

those posters didnt help our cause much, 4 posters thats 20 points we lost taking away the points we already would have got.
I was very impressed with Tarrants game again, decided to play without any strapping with sprained ligaments in his thumb. Thought one of his last marks were outstanding.
Buckley had another excellent match, Lica did well also as also i thought Woey did too.
Overall im dissapointed we lost, but i'm very proud of the boys did not to lie down in those last 5 mins and got a few goals when they could have given up and let the lions run over them. WELL DONE PIES
Our defense i thought was excellent all nite and the commentators made comment of that by saying we had the only defense in the AFL who could stand up to the barrage we were given tonite.
Bring on essendon next week...should be a great match, hopefully Taz becomes the 1st player to win an ANZAC Day medal twice but this time for a winning side. |

What does it mean? If somebody knows, please explain it to me, Dermott Brereton, Nathan Buckley and 3 ignorant umpires. If Brown (Brisbane) gets tackled twice and drops the ball - what is that? If Bucks receives a (terrible) handball and gets nailed immediately (within Brisbane goal-scoring range) - what is that? If Luke Power runs out of defense, gets tackled and drops the ball - what is that?
$#@%ing inconsistency, that's what! The 'deliberate out-of-bounds' rule we are all foggy on too. Michael didn't suffer for it, Clokey did. Yes, we weren't good enough but we fought the game out well. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger and the team learned tonight the distance between first and second.
Thanks Brisbane for allowing us to reclaim some percentage in the dying minutes. Except for our FOURTH poster the margin would've been 9 points. Sounds familiiar, doesn't it? _________________ Go The Mighty Pies! It's high time Joffa had the lamae jacket on! |

STFU Hal.
The maggots were disgraceful, they gave us too many soft, useles ones in the first q - i thought oh no, when they even them up in the last... but really how many of our frees were in the back half compared to the Life of Brians. I WANT THAT STAT! |

Here are my observations:
1. Tarrant exposed Leppistch badly. Leppa looked silly as Tazza tore him apart and showed how damaging he can be when fit. Freak accident with his hand cost us a bit. Leppa only played well when he was a loose player in defence and not accountable for anyone.
2. Luke Brennan thinks he is Kouta......lol For his first game he sure played well though.
3. The umpires are not consistent. Two deliberate out of bounds that went Brisbanes way. However Johnson gets tackled does a 360 in the tackle then handballs straight out of bounds and nothing gets paid. A stupid shepharding free kick in the centre square was too funny to be true.
I dont care if the umpires are shit but at least be shit both ways.
4. I hope Rohan saw Lynchs game. Would you still swap Tarrant for Lynch Rohan?? Lynch is a dirty dud who takes cheap shots at players. Slings Cloke to the ground and the umpire doesnt even pay 50m and Brisbane kicked a goal.
The return game in Melbourne will be a great game. Brisbane minus Bradshaw were at full strength so i think it was an ok effort.

The umpires were sh**, im not saying that thats what lost us the game but still, they were pretty crap!! Tazza played really well again, bad luck about his hand tho. I agree with back pocket in that we did look pretty tired in the 3rd, but thats understandable because the conditions are very different over there, they had to travel and had 5 days to prepare! I dont think they were to bad!! I HATE Akkermanis with a passion , I think hes just a smartass w***er! We will beat em wen they come over here!!! GO PIES!

The bottom line with what Mick M has said is that we need to be a better side than Brisbane. So much better that bs things like posters and unbelievably one-sided umpiring displays don't effect the end result.
Didak is trying to come to terms with getting a really good defender/tag on him and it will take time for that.
Leon has got to stop taking a dive. Legit or not the umpires are giving him nothing at all because he's a known actor.
Taz has finally got street cred with the umps because he is working so hard. More frees are coming because it takes more to stop him from marking.
Burnsy had an off night. He will bounce back, he still laid 5 tackles because thats what good players do when they are struggling.
O'Bree won alot of the ball last night, he's finding form & touch. Tarks being out takes a little pressure off him.
Josh is turning the corner, Stunner & he & Ant combined for 31 hitouts compared to Brisbanes 41. Josh is figuring it out around the ground again too. Seeing the pies swarm forward from a bounce brought joy, albeit brief, to the heart, and reminded me of McGuane, Francis, T. Shaw & co.
Ant was ok and is kicking goals he has missed earlier on in his career.
Bucks was bucks except when he missed the gettable goal.
Woewodin continues to improve as he integrates into the pie side. 10 marks is not bad going.
Licka has quitely returned to ball winning form, 27 touches last night. Now he's getting it, he will start to increase the damage he does with it.
Clemo had a night which he won't like to remember. He has one or two of these a year, so its good he has got one out of the way.
Presti looked slow and vulnerable, but will improve quickly and will have enjoyed the run.
Cloke made a few mistakes leaving Brown, the classic was waiting at the front to rove the pack while a couple of Lions shepherded and allowed his man to mark. Just a learning experience for Jas.
Lonie didn't seem to get into the game much.
Freeza was tough and good in the middle, continues to get back into form after an interrupted preseason. Still a very handy player, especially when its hard and tough.
Johnno was ok, as was Loks who would have benefitted from playing a great side at home.
Shawy looked out of his depth again, but credit goes to Mick for giving the kid a chance to play. A bit more patience and Shaw could be a very handy player in the ones.
Stunner was solid again. The free against him in the middle was Bs. I mean that one, and the shepherding one in the first quarter against Molly were because of Matthews bleating.
Molly struggled a little, but maybe playing in Bris is hard, don't know.
Wakes wrestled well with the old junkie and did a good job barely within the rules though.
Williams took it too hard after he missed the running goal. He will continue to be one of our shining lights.
Make no mistake, Matthews may have wished he lost this game to take the pressure of his side. He is shit scared of Collingwood, probably more so now after he has seen us up close, like Jaws passing the boat "I think we need a bigger boat". We ARE improving whereas Brisbane are slowly dropping off. How Black won the Brownlow, i mean seriously, he's an elegant receiver of the footy, Voss won that for him. New boy Brennan will find that his one-handed crap will disappear, easy to play well when no-one knows anything about you, showing off is not the best thing to do in League footy. Hope his knees are insured.
They talk about Brownlow medals blah blah, we have 3 players in Woe (who has), Bucks & Licka (who could have and maybe should have). Matthews rates the Gabba a 4-5 goal advantage. We got a few easy goals at the end to flatter us, givem back to them and we lose by 4-5 goals. Even then, we are right there, right in their faces. Play in Melbourne without the advantage and with the pie army in more force. We are right with em, we need to go past them.
We are coming steadily like an army of locusts, by the year's end we will have devoured all in our path. |
