Where is ur career heading.

Saw his first game in the black and white (practice match v Sydney in 200). He kicked six goals in 3 quarters.
I thought how good is this guy, lightning quick and great skills.

Ben Johnson also played his first game for the pies that day and put in a
solid performance I also held out hopes for him.

I was pleased to see them play many games in 2000 and show a lot of promise.

Ben has continued to come on in leaps and bounds and just continues to improve imo since them.

He really is now a very professional footballer and is reaping the benefits.

Leon however has not really come on at all imo in recent years

Constant fumbling and over running the ball, and inability to get near the ball.

Once again only three kicks again on Saturday. Not good enough.

Hes been tried in the midfield but doesnt even seem to get near it.

Now into his fourth year - where is his career heading.

Right now I have dramatically downgraded my expectations.

I dont think he has the work ethic to get the best out of himself.

He will only be a good average footballer I feel which is a shame.

Hoping he can lift and prove me wrong and work on these weaknesses he has.

Cheers

He improves each year. He is not in the same class as a Voss or Buckley or even a Waganeen. He is an impact player who can be rotated in the midfield he gets the ball enough for a forward, Gets a bit cocky during games. If he can kick 2 goals a week and has to have a quality player on him he has done his job. Its round three, lets wait and see what happens by Round 22.

He did not peak last year till mid year and then a few niggles and not a strong pre season (he stated that) cost him in the end. He was at training early this year and is putting in on the track. Malthouse is very happy with him.

Leon will get better as the season progresses.

Yeah I think he needs to get a bit more professional and do a few more hard preseasons.

I know for a fact b johnson has worked his absolute arse off. Not sure Leon has done the same.

Your comments re injuries last year noted. Just concerned he is not putting in a consistent effort this year or making an impact up the ground.

Cheers

That's the role of a small forward to come in and out of the game. Look at Milne for the Saints.

If Leon only gets 3 kicks but still gets 2 goals per week, I'll be happy.

He was very good last week against Carlton and could've come away with 5.

Johno loves Colingwood as does Leon. Yesterday was not a day for small forwards. That goal on the boundary line was sensational and he does read the play well.

"Hes been tried in the midfield but doesnt even seem to get near it." nah he gets near it but seems to be intent on giving a bump rather than getting a hand on the ball, and getting his hand on the ball is all he needs to do. he's a good footballer but seems to have taken his eyes off it lately.
I'm sure come mid season we'll all be mavelling at his magic again.

Has the potential to be anything, at the moment he is caught somewhere between Peter Daicos and Byron Pickett.

I have noticed him a few times trying to pick off a team mates chaser.

As soon as he realises he needs to hit the ball at full pace, take it BOTH hands stop this free kick play and handball in front crap the sooner he will take the next step.

Is a 3-4 goal per game player and a 200 gamer.

from the Macquarie Essential Dictionary.

understudy 1. noun an actor who stands by to replace a performer when the latter is unable to appear. 2. verb to act as an undertudy to (an actor).

Mike, you are quite correct, I must have skim read the book. Wink (quick edit, tada)

One thing a forward pocket has to be able to do is read the play and i think Leon is pretty good at that. All Leon has to be able to do is the ordinary things very well and consistently. The flashy stuff and party tricks are a bonus. If Leon gets 40 - 50 goals this year and sets up another 20 then i think he has done his job Smile

At the end of the year i would expect our forwards to have the following returns (based on the players playing 20 to 22 games in H&A rounds)

Tarrant 60 - 70
Rocca 40 - 50
Davis 40 - 50
Didak 40 - 50
Molloy 20 - 30

Cam

As a teacher, is it acceptable to define a word as a verb and then provide a description of a noun?

Much better Wink

I think all Leon needs to do is the job set for him by the coaching staff...unless you're privy to that information, you can't really judge...it's mere speculation and/or opinion...as people have pointed out, he hasn't got too many BOG's, but I would say in the role he appears to have, he would probably be disappointed if he kicked 1.3, as opposed to 3.1 He is undoubtedly a player the oppo needs to mark carefully, as he can have a big impact in a short period of game time.
