Post subject: MCGOUGH AND BROWNLOW VOTES | |
|
Just a quick question........whats the most votes a player has received in the Brownlow in he debut season ??
McGough got 8 votes which is more than some players have got in the club in over 10 years of footy.
Riewoldt for StkILda got 11 which is exceptional.
So yeah who holds the record ? Has anyone won the Brownlow in their debut year in AFL ??

I think Haydyn Bunton may have won it in his debut year, and I recall Phil Carman getting a heap in his debut season, well, up until he broke his leg anyway.
No idea what votes would be, but I'd think more than 11 |

Remember also, we have had seasons when 2 or 3 umpires have voted seperately in the same game. This means every game was worth up to 3 x 3 votes, 3 x 2 votes, 3 x 1 votes.
Makes it very hard to compare seasons.

Johnny last year was not Rietwolts first year it was his second so Mcgough got more votes than he did in his first year! _________________ I love Danny Allsopp, Danny Allsopp loves me! |

LondonDave your spot on!
As far as I can tell, there have been two occasions where a player has won the Brownlow in their debut year.
In 1931 Hayday Bunton (Fitzroy) at age 20 polled 26 votes to win.
Brad Hardie (Footscray) was the other in 1985, age 22, polling 22 votes. |

A liitle off the subject, but as you can see by my avatar and signature I am a Goughy fan big time. Does anyone know if Mark polled votes in the Round 8 game against Brisbane despite coming off injured? And if so, there in lies the reasoning behind my signature, given the conditions on GF day and on Anzac Day (3 votes). |
