At 24 y/o he's called it quits, going out a premiership player.
Collingwood: 57 games, (Debut:18y 246d Last:23y 289d), 1150th player to appear, 319th most games played, 867th most goals kicked, 2023 Premiership player.

Go well young man.

Terrible blow to our team, to lose one of the few young guns that we have. However, Nathan you have made the right call you're both a premiership player and ever remembered as a great player.
As a fellow alumnus of Brighton Grammar, I also want to say you're a legend of our first eighteen and premiership player.

All the best to you Nathan.

Sad day, but I wish him nothing but the best in retirement.
Forever a Premiership player and a pivotal part to our 2023 success.

Sad news for the team, fans and coaches but not unexpected.
Happy for Murphy that he values his future ahead of a game.
Farewell to Nathan and big thanks. He will be remembered as a premiership player who always
gave his all, put his body in dangerous positions and helped us getting to the grand final and ultimately, win the flag.

Ultimately a brave decision, and Murph was always brave.

Will miss his pack crashing (but I guess that might be what got us here).

Billy Frampton, you have a lot to live up to!

Tough decision but seems to be the correct one
Better an ex player than a vegetable
Hope you fully recover

The welfare of any individual is always more important than any collective goal in sport.

I am saddened that we have lost another 'heart and soul' player, but relieved that we will not have to worry about a Premiership hero compromising his future health and well-being every time he takes the field for the Magies.

Agree that his are big shoes to fill, but Murphy (and perhaps the club medicos and coaching staff) have made a call that is 100% correct.

Hopefully, he can be retained and retrained in some other capacity at Collingwood- he would be awesome as a mentor for the sons and daughters of former Pies players.

Very sad, but the right decision. There is much more to life than football.

I was quite certain this would happen after his GF concussion. Like Paddy McCartin from Sydney he'd just had one too many in his career.

Good luck son. You will always be a Premiership player!

It seemed a bit inevitable but really sad for it to come to this.
I totally agree with others here, his health must come first.
Hopefully the club can find a role for him - he seems like a great team person.
