What a Test the GOAT is having.

Top score (41) with the willow in the Aussies second dig and 9/90 with the ball - so far.

Is Labu in danger for the second Test ?

If so, and they don't go with Renshaw, is Beau Webster in the frame ?

He has most runs in Shield, this season, with 840 at an average of 70. This includes 3 centuries and 5 other fifties.

He also has 19 wickets, not that another all-rounder is needed.

Can two players share the PotM achievement?

6 Consecutive Test wins for Australia against New Zealand in New Zealand. They have won ten of their last 11 Test matches in New Zealand since 2000. Only two teams have had a longer winning streak against the home team in Test cricket - England's first eight Tests in South Africa (1889-1899) and New Zealand's recent seven Tests in Zimbabwe (2000-2016*). Australia in South Africa (1936-1950) and England in Sri Lanka (since 2012) also won six consecutive Tests against the home side.

12 Australia have retained the Trans-Tasman Trophy for the 12th successive series since regaining it with a series win at home in 1993-94. The last instance of New Zealand holding the Trans-Tasman Trophy was in 1992-93 when they retained it following a drawn series at home.

...

2 Instances of New Zealand being bowled out under 200 in both innings of a Test match at home in the last 25 years. New Zealand were bowled out for 185 and 168 in the 2012 Hamilton Test against South Africa.

...

2 Test matches lost by New Zealand at home since 2010 despite winning the toss, including the Wellington Test against Australia. Last year's day-night Test against England in Mount Maunganui was the other. New Zealand have won the toss in 24 home Tests in the past 14 years and won in 15 of them, while another seven ended in a draw.

The last time New Zealand held the Trans-Tasman Trophy, AB was Australia's Captain. AB last played for Australia against New Zealand in 1993.

So, apparently NZ is so bereft of fast bowlers (well, let's be fair - second-rate, medium-pace trundlers) that the door has been left ajar to recall Wagner. This would be a startling backflip, born of sheer desperation, given that "New Zealand do not have a fourth seamer in the squad to call on as Wagner retired after being told he would not be selected for either of the Test matches against Australia":

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/tim-southee-leaves-door-ajar-for-shock-neil-wagner-recall-amid-will-o-rourke-doubt-1423345

Any news on whether Williamson feels hamstring tightness coming on?

So, they've added Ben Sears, not Wagner, to replace O'Rourke. Also Conway is out for 8 weeks after thumb surgery: https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/new-zealand-news-ben-sears-called-up-for-will-o-rourke-devon-conway-to-miss-start-of-ipl-1423425

Tim Southee and Kane Williamson are both playing their 100th Test.

So once the game starts there'll be four players playing their 100th Test at the same time!!

They'll hope for a better 100th than Stokes had!!!

--------------------------------------------------------

And Southee will become the 4th man to play 100 Tests, 100 ODIs and 100 T20Is for his country. The first three: Ross Taylor, Kohli, Warner.
