Post subject: Treatment of Nick Daicos | |
|
I was hoping the club would be on the phone to the AFL about the hit by the Hawks player who had only one intention — to hurt him. 50m should have been paid, wasn’t in the marking contest and it was front on. Like we should have done ages ago when Sydney started the harassment, which just gave a green light to every other club to push the rules to the limit (and often overstep them) with Nick. He gets punched, he gets kneed when on the ground, whacked and dumped and much worse than just hard tag. No other player cops what Nick has been getting, he’s the new Ginnivan and just expected to put up with shit other players don’t have to. The AFL wouldn’t tolerate it for any other player. This is way beyond just a hard tag and physical footy. And where the **** is Dangerfield and the AFLPA! |

Been occurring since he ever pulled on the boots
It’s a shame and could potentially end his career both mentally and physically
It’s the way society is these days
Nothing but all about stopping Nick no giving any credit how good a player he is |

This is the one glaring weakness of our football department.
Fly and Wrighty have done so much right but last years onfield and offield vitriolic harassment of Ginnivan was allowed to manifest because of a lack of support from the club. This has now transferred to Daicos and there has been very little public condemnation from anyone at the club about the deliberate and targeted treatment that he has had to deal with.
It’s a very poor look and you can bet your bottom dollar that Chris Scott would have very aggressively squashed any and all questioning of Selwoods ducking and playing for free kicks style that he was renowned for during his career. Scott would have publicly defended his player to the death irrespective of his personal opinion on Selwoods tactics.
The treatment of Nick Daicos has the John Greenings feel about it.
It’s up to the club to stand up and call it out before it gets to something more serious. _________________ - Side By Side - |

@90 Nice — Nah it’s not career ending. Nick has a mature head, and strong people around him, and he won’t let this targeted harassment stop him. I’m just sick of the double standards from the AFL and media, especially when it results in injury.
@slangman Yep and I can’t think of any other player who was as good as Nick is in their second year who copped the same tall poppy syndrome. He’ll cop that regardless, but it’s the physical stuff no other player has to tolerate that’s pissing me off. Umps finally blew the whistle and flogs like Cornes are “he staged for it.” Mate, Cornes would squeal like a stuck pig if anyone lined him up. |

it's a fair tactic that's working. Nothing illegal about the play where Nick was injured. Hawks player stopped and braced for contact. He didn't try to hit Nick front on. Was just an unfortunate clash of knees.
Finn McGuiness has tagged and nullified some excellent players over the past 2 years. Everyone knew he was going to play a hard tag on Nick. _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |

Nicky Boy will be fine. Footy's a game where the odd injury like that will always happen. It's ugly timing, but it could've been even worse.
Let's wait to see if this remedies lack of ferocity and self-preservation in the team. Teams like Hawthorn will always sniff that a mile off. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

Seriously, if our club publicly decried the treatment of Naicos, it would only make matters worse. He would be ridiculed as a cry baby who can't handle the heat of senior footy.
My only criticism is that other players should have been blocking and bumping the tagger, to assist Daics. |

The piss an poop have always been a thug of a team , goes right back to that old fart Kennedy, and his brutal sides. Its how that mob roll. I see the Dawk cheer squad waved their banners like mad, as if they had got a goal, when Nick went down, so that sums up their piss ant fans too. Nick will be fine, but him and Ginni sure get treated by umpires in regards to fairness, totally different to how types like Sellwood were, a protected species. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

It’s not just that one incident. It’s the “Nick is fair game and rules don’t apply” treatment he’s copped since Sydney. Blame is squarely on the umps for not blowing the whistle more when they should have. |

Yep one intention only, to hurt him. The Sam Mitchell way. Won them the game but thought the hawks would want to put the unsociable tag behind them with Clarko.
Anyway, all the umps had to do weeks ago was blow the whistle more often and it would have stopped it all. They seem to be on a high after Ginnivan though. |
