It's the match fixture I've dreaded since the 80's.
Over the modern AFL era, we've played 51 times, lost 33 times leaving us with 18 wins.
23 of those losses have been at the MCG, 8 at Waverley and 2 at Docklands.

They own us.

The ONLY time I ever saw us defeat these pricks at Waverley, was rnd.1 1989, and our best win of that season.
I saw countless losses to them out there and wondered each and every time why I even bothered attending, as the result was almost a fait accompli....

History also tells us that when a Collingwood side sits near top of the table late in a season, and suffers a loss to Whorethorn, that ultimately, we go on to win the flag; 1990, 2010 and now 2023.
So thankscuntsforthat.

I'd have to say it was one of the more comprehensive defeats I've witnessed for a long time.
We might have found there was an internal matter, medical e.g. Covid or injury or the dreaded Club Statement memo, but nothing.
We were comprehensively beaten in the coaching box then on the field.

Just watched the entire game again on fux504 a few days ago; it was easier to sit through again knowing we had already banked that darn cup.
But didn't Fly also disclose many weeks later that the game against Port at AA in the rain two rounds earlier really sapped the players?
Plus, Carlton also ran us hard the week prior, further sabotaged by our dodgy kicking for goal.
I'm pretty sure that wasn't lost on thug Bitchell, who suspected they could outwork us on heavy legs.
Regardless we responded well the next week against Handbaggers, which we needed to do.
Then the Brisbane loss [engineered by DeBoy], minus Moore and Hill, which was a great effort really, to give them a false sense of security.
Last but not least, a coasting win over Dopers, minus many of their starting 22. I despise cue-in-the-rack football, but that's just me.
Finally, onto our history making finals run with three more successive close games, all won by single digit margins.

Come Sunday April 7 Round 4, while it isn't at the MCG, there is only one response.
We then have to wait until the R19 clash at the MCG for true redemption.

I really am curious to see exactly how much animosity remains, and how the players will manifest this against Maguiness and Banckes in particular.

Jo, let's revisit this thought closer to the encounter, as it will no doubt be the distracting side-show from the main event.
All I can tell you for sure, is that he will get at least two frees in front of goal from maggots [against us] for ducking, regardless of how legit they are.

Needed to bump Harrysz OP, makes for an interesting re-cap. It could have been posted after the recent Saints loss.

While we'll no doubt unpack the upcoming match against the unsociable Hawks, we owe them one and more.
It's the fixture I dread in the draw, for weight of games, I don't think there's a side in the modern era we've performed as badly against. Since 1990 it's 51-33W-18L in their favour.
Even in our Premiership years, they've put us to the sword. While in 2010 we recorded a win, they kicked 17.21!

We must break them and send their guernseys to the four corners of the AFL Kingdom.
Guy Fawkes (rhyming slang for the Hawks?...) was put to death in Westminster for his part in the Gunpowder Plot, by hanging, drawing and quartering. His remains were sent to the four corners of the Kingdom as a warning to other plotters. http://www.historyofyork.org.uk//themes/tudor-stuart/guy-fawkes
