Post subject: Leon Davis: Role Model, Community Leader, Club LeaderReply with quote

Steele's 300th and Mason's 100th come with another incredible story: Leon Davis, club leader, stepping to the fore during the Sir Doug Nicholls Round and National Reconciliation Week.

Watch the interview: https://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/video/1339645/leon-davis-leads-a-special-outing-at-the-mcg

We know his story: a shy lad thousands of kilometres away from home; a highlight reel a mile long, AA at both ends of the ground, undeserved grand final heartache; the Do Better Report, the cutting of ties, the reconciliation and return as Cultural Development Manager.

A role model, community leader and club leader. His best chapter yet, during the club's best chapter yet.

We can all be inclined to get a little dirty on the Club when bad calls are made in appointments, contracts, delistings, selections.

The appointment of Neon Leon continues a trend where the Pies are making very sound decisions off-field.

I will admit to being dismayed when Travis Varcoe was pinched by Western Bulldogs- he would have been ideal in such a role, but Davis is a great appointment.

We have a number of Indigenous lads on the list and Jetta is Captain of the VFL outfit so Davis is that wise and experienced voice and mentor that fits like a hand in a glove.

Wishing him continued success as he continues to help our Club become a better place for all concerned.

Couldn't agree more lad.
The club suffered a critical leadership vacuum in the community access areas for far too long.

Just a correction WL, Neville Jetta is a development coach at the Pies, worls with the AFL & VFL players.
Lachie Tardrew and Campbell Hustwaite are co-captains of the VFL.

This makes me so happy. He was always a favourite player of mine and it was heart breaking what he and other non-anglo players went through from so far unnamed former team mates.

Welcom back Leon, take us forward to being a better club.

I reckon Leon Davis is the most under rated indigenous player in AFL history. I always reckon he had Eddie Betts covered for miraculous goals and he was AA as a back man. Didn’t see him highlighted at all on Fox Footy over the last two weeks.

Damien, Betts played 350 games and kicked 640 goals (and gave a further 318 goal assists). And he kicked 31 goals in 13 finals. He also managed season goal tallies of 42, 50, 48, 51, 63, 75 and 55, amongst others, along the way. He kicked 6 or more goals in a game 8 times over the journey.

Davis played 225 games and kicked 270 goals (and gave a further 106 goal assists). And he kicked 15 goals in 18 finals. He got to 30 goals in just 4 seasons and never kicked more than 37. He never kicked more than 4 goals in a game.

Bias aside, I'm not sure there's any case to make that Davis is underrated compared to Betts.

With Leon back and Lumumba gagged it’s more good news plus a ✔️ for an administration/off field /on field stability and harmony

Gotta love it and hey look at other options

I'm just so happy Leon is back at the club. Unfortunately I don't think Lumumba is coming back. Sad.

Great that Leon is back, don't care about Lamumbar, looking forward to his Facebook rant when he gets sacked by the Congo.

Maybe you should read my post again and reconsider your reply.
