You always have more questions than answers JW Smile

I guess the real question for us is do we trust Bucks to have the answer to that last one of yours?

contrary to popular belief - and i am sure many will cramp with laughter - i don't know everything. Wink

i thought we were chasing the pack for 2013. i'd love for bucks and co to devise something that will somewhat revolutionise how footy gets played. we need to get back to being the hunted and leading the change and charge. we need to be pigeons next year.

This is the new "go up the guts and quit hugging the boundary line."

If we pick up Bontempelli we could conceivably have four players over 191cm in the square at the first bounce - Grundy, Pendles, Karnezis and Bontempelli.

I realise that your tongue was in your cheek but I'm hearing the sentiment so often I'm starting to worry that we will end up with a height addiction like MM's speed addiction in the early-mid 00's. It may be that we should be picking up Lewis Taylor in the draft but we won't because of the potential backlash from fans.

Something I have always loved about our game is that no matter what size or shape you are there is a role for you.

It could also be that in these days of oval-wide zones, the place to be is between the players in the zone and height is relatively irrelevant. This is how we seem to be trying to gain ground these days - putting each other into gaps almost like League players, avoiding one-on-one contests really.

I trust Bucks and Hiney to manage the list, including the average height.

Having said all of that, three years after winning a flag Blair is back to playing for his spot next year and I don't like his chances.

Ball's in strife too.

We go deep as Very Happy

I'd be horrified if Bucks' or Hines' decisions were swayed by the thought of potential backlash from fans. Stuff the sooks!

Hines words, "one thing you can take to the bank with our first 2 picks is, we'll be taking the best player, whether it be small, medium or tall".

Good enough for me.

this is what i think too. there seems to be a high number of players who are not classically beautiful to watch ala pendles but they sure know how to get the footy and keep it moving forward. unfortunately just for long or often enough. for all the complaints about him sinclair is a keeper for mine, plus thomas, elliott, blair and kennedy even. we have not seen much yet from broomhead, then add in adams and whomever 6 and 10 net us. hope has been restored.

I agree. Our lack of height through the middle is overstated. Most of our midgets are fringe players and do not need to be played together. We also have O'Brien and Pendles through the middle, two of the tallest in the comp. The number of mids over say 188cm is actually still quite small and we have two.

I would switch Dwyer in for Blair but otherwise agree.

In 2010 side consisted of the following that could run through the middle,

Swan
Pendlebury
Ball
D. Thomas
Didak
Johnson
Wellers
Steele
Beams
Blair

You can never have too many midfielders, resting mids make excellent forwards

Yes, Adams likely gets a game in our best 21. Provides a contest, with enough size to make or break tackles (where I think Blair lacks), has some leg speed and can finish. Always room for a player like this.

I'd like to see Blair actually become a genuine crumbing forward as I think it has been lacking in our team and I think he might be capable..

Its hard to sell stats on me on Adams. I think he will be a better player than his GWS stats give him. He will be getting better quality assists at the Pies and therefore regardless of stats, will be an even better player. Salivating! Smile

Blair can play as a Small Forward. Sidebottom can also play up Forwards with Amazing Reading Play well. Also played some real good games at HBF for Steele. Won a Game for Busrangers in there Final Series. That was said they won a game for them at HBF. Then Kicked the 10 in the GF

I'm shocked, but I agree with E. This kid is class, he's in the best 22.

But then you could argue neither of them should get a game - 0 hit outs! What have they been doing!?! Razz

Dwyer and Blair will be given every opportunity but one will likely fall for Adams.. until Ball retires in a few years at least.

2013 Season

1 Syd Sub thrown in for final term but ran more after game than during it. 4
2 Hip.
3 Hip.
4 NEAFL Returned from hip injury and worked into the game. -
5 NEAFL Competed strongly as always. Nearly full fit again. -
6 Ess Snagged two and was one of the Giants’ best with 23 possessions. 7
7 Adel Won a fair amount of the ball and tried hard. 5
8 Haw Clamped on five tackles in first term to show intent. 5
9 WCE Worked hard all day, but found the Eagles’ pressure difficult to overcome. 6
10 Carl Laid six tackles and a good contributor through the midfield. 6
11 Geel Tough effort highlighted by 11 contested poss and eight clearances. 7
12 Port Battled hard against the flow of momentum in midfield. Four clearances. 6
14 NM Ball use not up to standard but couldn’t question work-rate. 5
15 WB Failed to channel his aggression, sparking a melee for a hit on Cooney. 3
16 Suspended.
17 Ess Back from suspension, he displayed more controlled aggression this week. 6
18 Coll Good contributor and provided a strong body in the contest, especially early. 7
19 Melb Shifted to N. Jones and found a fair bit of his own ball as well as kicking a goal. 6
20 Frem Subbed out after 14 disposals but few were effective. 4
21 Back.
22 Rich Far and away the Giants’ best in midfield. Never stopped trying. 7
23 GCS Giants’ best and didn't stop trying. 8
QF
SF
PF
GF

Looking at Adams' trajectory, I can see this kid knocking the door down.

Your point is well made but I just thought I'd do a then & now exercise...

Still haven't even used Kennedy, Karnezis, Martin, Macaffer, Clarke, or the potential pick 6 & 10 mids... our midfield depth is pretty good, comparative quality is where the arguements start.

PS: didn't even start looking at potential wingmen like Harry O, Young, Seedsman, Oxley, Mooney... or the small utility types such as Elliott and Williams.
