What about the restraint of trade laws? Wouldn’t that come into effect at times? If this is still about the so called club equalisation process allowing for sanctioned poaching and corruption, then this totally organised shit and active and purposefully shaping of clubs would have gone too far for most of us I reckon 😠

Excellent. At the moment, the players seem to have all the power - demanding where they want to be traded and it's an exception to see a player not traded to the club they want.
Now the club can move a player on to the highest bidder.

Betting with yourself isn't really a bet. You know that right?
Anyway, every other decision the AFL has made to enhance player mobility (following US sports) has made the game better.

What exactly is being restrained? How is a club trading a player to a team different to a team drafting a player?

| You won’t be welcome at the AFLPA BBQ tomorrow. In what universe do you think the AFL dictating to players they have to move or else is okay? AFL wanted Buddy at GWS — with the powers they’re chasing, they could do it. It’d be terrible for the game and — news flash — we’re not the NBA or America, but Aussie Rules Football. Don’t tell me the AFL would act with integrity. |

Maybe read the details. What could possibly go wrong. Or are you happy with the Treloar and Grundy trades?

I don’t think it’s the AFL per se who are trading players against their will, it’s the clubs. So Collingwood could send Grundy to Adelaide for some first rd draft picks instead of being forced to accept Melbournes offer. |

I don’t think there is a conspiracy, just that I could see the club’s hand being forced at times to do the AFL’s bidding, depending on which player at which club the AFL want. Nothing is ever cut and dry with the AFL. They will have wriggle room until the process is clear and then set it in concrete.
