Grundys shit. Admit you backed a dud and move on. Your the guy who knows he is wrong but keeps digging a bigger hole. Enough already.

2 Copeland trophies - and in one of those years, he carried a poor team to a Grand Final just about on his own. It's amazing how quickly people forget.

By the way, there's no need to be a %$^%$$%, just because you disagree with me.

Mate your the one who keeps harping on about how great Grundy is. The club did what it had to do and we are better for it.

I'm not being an d@#k, but every post about him you keep pulling stats up about him. The saying about stats is true. "There are three types of lies -- lies, damn lies, and statistics."

You can pull all the stats out you want, but I have a pair of eyes and what they see is an overrated player. He may have been good in the past but that's the past.

Move on, he doesn't play for us and he can now stink up Melbourne.

^ This is the "Other AFL" forum - I watch him play for Melbourne. I don't understand why so many Collingwood supporters are so invested in him being a failure - it's them (and you) that need to move on.

I honestly don't give a s@#t about him. Every one needs to stop bringing him up in the main forum. The club did what they needed to do and we are better for it. End of story.

I'd suggest Len Thompson, Peter Moore and Damien Monkhurst would be ahead of Grundy in that pecking order.

They all left the club too, for various reasons, but will always remain favourite sons of the club.

Yes P4S has always placed Grundy on top of a pedestal he doesn’t deserve to be on
He’s not in the same class as Thompson or Moore

Just a side note watching AFL 360
Grundy this year is ranked
#8 for hit outs
#25 for hit outs to advantage
And they haven’t scored a single point off any Grundy hit out to advantage
They showed footage of Mc Inerny running off Grundy not once not twice but several times
King commented Grundy looks disinterested in playing the Melbourne brand of football that made them successful

Last weekend Champion data had Cameroon ranked the #1 ruck man for the round and Grundy ranked equal 11th
The next 4-6 weeks with Gawn out will se exactly Grundy’s worth
The swans this weekend at the MCG is his first test

^ Those stats by themselves demonstrate nothing. Grundy is working back gradually after a serious knee injury that saw him miss the last 19 games of 2022.

He was playing as Melbourne's second ruck in the first game and attended just 29 ruck contests for 12 hitouts (4 to advantage) in under 70% gametime - by contrast, English, playing against Grundy and Gawn, had 6 hitouts to advantage from 62 ruck contests. In round 2, Grundy was suddenly required to attend 79 ruck contests. He won 45 hitouts but because Gawn was absent, he was double-teamed by the Brisbane rucks and forced to play nearly 90% gametime.

As a consequence, he is ranked 8th for hitouts after 2 rounds - but his 57 hitouts come from 108 ruck contests, whereas Witts (who led with 87 hitouts) had attended 173 ruck contests - so that Grundy's hitout win rate was actually higher than Witts'. For comparison, McInerney was 2nd (86 hitouts from 187 contests), Cameron was 3rd (82 from 181). English is 4th for total hitouts - but his 79 come from 213 ruck contests (his hitout numbers are, of course, low partly because Gawn and Grundy thrashed him in round 1).

Thus, Grundy's hitout win rate after 2 rounds is the third-highest in the AFL amongst players who have attended at least 60 ruck contests. That shouldn't be too surprising because in the game where he had to step up in Gawn's absence, his hitout win rate was 57% - McInerney's was 46% and Fort's was just 33%. The real problem for Melbourne was that, apart from Grundy, they managed not one single hitout to advantage - and just 7 hitouts - from their remaining 37 ruck contests (including the 4 Gawn attended before he was injured). Thus, McInerney and Fort both have inflated numbers because they rag-dolled the Melbourne rucks when Grundy wasn't attending the contest.

Grundy had a long layoff, is not yet at full match-fitness and is fitting into a new gameplan at a new club. The next 4 to 6 weeks will tell us nothing - except, of course, that Grundy is, amongst all his other admirable qualities, one of the most durable big men running around in the AFL. His one serious injury in 2022 aside, he has played almost every game for which he could have been picked since round 15, 2015. Meanwhile, Gawn is injured (again) and Collingwood has no fit ruckman over 20 on its list.

Comparing hit out numbers from previous generations when ruckmen worked under different rules is meaningless. If you knew anything about ruck work, you'd know that and that it isn't just how many times you get your hand on the ball that counts, but what you do with it.

I'm not saying he's a bad ruckman, he's far from that. His best is very very good, but to suggest that he was the best ruckman every for Collingwood is ludicrous.

Grundy scored 106 fantasy points in the Demons obliteration of the Swans. Second highest on the field, behind only Oliver (111). This was achieved rucking alone, without Gawn.
