Morning TV news stated Walsh's daughter currently in USA on a camp.
Christ, you'd hope the counsellors got to her before she found out via social media...

A Tragic loss for all concerned. I was too young to remember him really well as a player. But obviously had a massive impact on many. R.I.P.

I really feel for the wife/mother and the daughter/sister. Imagine having your husband/father murdered and your son/brother in prison facing a lkely life sentence for it. You'd never get over it.

Poor girl - will never see dad again, and mum's in hospital [stable].
Reckon she'll need to be sedated on the plane trip back to Australia.
Can't see her having any sympathy for the brother any time soon either.

It's like you wake up one day and your life is suddenly turned upside down.

I'm still stunned by the news even after hours finding out what had transpired in the early hours of the morning with Phil and his family. It's just horrific that a whole family has been torn apart and a man has tragically passed away now.

I checked out his playing stats for the Pies in 1983 on AFL Tables and he seemed like an impressive player for us that year and it was really detrimental to the club that he left at the end of 1983 and joined the Tigers during the Richmond-Collingwood poaching wars in those years.

Very sad news! RIP Phil Walsh and my thoughts go out to his family, friends and the Adelaide Football Club!

Yep, some genius at the club only signed him for a 1 year contract.
He did sneak under the radar though, all the attention went to Daicos, Williams, Raines, Richardson etc.
Like many I was shattered when he left; I know the club was probably starting to feel the pinch of meeting the financial demands of the elite players and interstate recruits heading into 1984, but really we should have matched Richmond's offer without hesitation.
He of course missed a very eventful 1984 season, with a roller-coaster finals campaign.
He probably would have left the club in early 1986 with Raines and Richardson for more money elsewhere, if that was his real incentive.

But I'm dealing in hypotheticals here...

The word "tragedy" gets tossed around too lightly these days, but this is a situation that justifies its use.

There are Crows scarves out all over Adelaide, hanging from cars, letterboxes, etc.

Be interesting to see how the club handles this, whether they fall apart or really pull it all together. I don't envy them the job.

Tragedy, no other word for it. What can you say? The illusion of everyday life is a fragile facade

I Remember being a very upset 15 year old when he left us after a brilliant debut season. He never recaptured his great form at Richmond but then won the B & F at the Bears in their first season. The bloke could play footy and clearly could coach too. Just a huge loss for his family and the whole football community.
