If Sidey is an A grader then at the moment so is Crisp. Having much more of a regular impact on games than Sidey. My question is, is Sidebotton an A grader?

Guys...think about it...

We got for Beams:

Jordan De Goey (a 250 game CFC legend if ever I have seen one)
Jack Crisp (will play 200+ games in Black & White)
Levi Greenwood (2nd in Norf's B&F last year and he starred in their preliminary finals loss)

FFS! West Coast Eagles didn't net that much for Chris Judd when he went to Carlton!

I am REALLY happy with the way things are shaping up at the moment.

depends if you are looking at assets acquired or the results of those assets. They were given a star CHF at the beginning of his career (plus I think 4 and 20). We got around the same level of draft picks, but I don't think Crisp is the caliber of Josh Kennedy.

the fact that our draft assets appear to have been used better doesn't change the assets we were given (and by the way, De Goey has played 5 games). Lee Walker looked this good after 5 games too remember......

Lee Walker came to us with an injury history the length of your arm.

He never looked good for more than a quarter before breaking down.

Did he ever play five FULL games much less five games on the trot?

Didn't think so.

De Goey is a superstar in the making. It is as obvious as dogs you know what.

Crisp is a surprise packet that will give our midfield that extra grunt that we need and Greenwood only has to play at somewhere near last years level (where he averaged 25 disposals a game) and happy days are here.

Kennedy ended up being a star, but Masten? Pick 20 got them Tony Notte? Who IS Tony Notte?

We cleaned up big time and will be the beneficiaries for years to come.

Walker played 16 games for the pies, which is approximately 3 more games than Crisp has played. the reason we bemoan the loss of Walker is because he did string together an awesome string of games at the start of his Collingwood career. he was electrifying. If he NEVER played, we wouldn't have missed him so much or talked about him for so long. My point was ... never mind....

You also completely missed my main point as well. Draft picks are assets and there are probabilities involved. They got 4 and 20, we got 5 and 25. They got the better picks and by far the better player (Kennedy vs Crisp). It doesn't matter who they used on them.

This is not a criticism of Collingwood. Judd was a more highly regarded player than Beams and I bet that Collingwood used the Judd model to try to argue for the extra player.

Well, let's hope so, since he's the second-best player at the Club. Confused

Not yet. An A-grader plays like that every week. But he's a potential A-grader, no doubt about that. On exposed form to date he's looking good to be a good clear no-questions-asked B-grader by the end of the year. A-grade status, if he earns it, will take a little longer and it's to early to say either way whether he will.

Adams, on the other hand, is on the cusp of A-grade status now. But he's a bit older (or maybe just been in the system a little longer). With good luck, they will both become A-grade players, though we will have to wait and see.

I seriously love watching him play. He's well on his way to being an A-grader and it's scary to think he's only 21 years of age.

People won't admit it now but I doubt anyone expected anything of Crisp and just hoped he would be the icing on the cake somewhat in the Beams trade as most paid their attention to De Goey and Greenwood when the trade occurred so his form has been a pleasant surprise and remarkable to say the least.

I suspect he might be second in the B&F count behind Pendles.

Count me in there, Jezza. I reckoned he'd go OK and push for a space in the 20th-30th player selected, bit of a roughie to cement a longer-term spot in the side as a pretty decent regular or semi-regular by Season 2016. But he's played every game and seems to be still improving. Wouldn't do to get too excited yet, he's a youngster yet and youngsters go through flat spots - but he hasn't put a foot wrong and he's been tasked with a series of very difficult jobs. In the main (not every time but mostly) he's acquitted himself with distinction in those tough roles.

Not an A grader yet IMO. But he's a B+, him and Varks have been terrific recruits.

Doesn't turn 22 till October.

Played 31 games.

190cm, 90kg.

He's the type of big bodied midfielder/utility that we haven't been able to uncover for a number of years.

It was probably our biggest weakness when it came to recruitment with a number of failures along the way.

Thanks Brisbane.

Hard to replace guys like Burns, Licca and Ball. The club has done amazingly well in the last couple of years.

Certainly the best result of 2015 so far.

We all know Greenwood and Varcoe will be solid for us, they're proven.

De Goey is a top 5 draft pick who you expect to excel pretty quick, as will Moore.

The further development of Oxley, Seedsman, Ramsay, Langdon, Broomhead ect has been great.

But Crisp has been one out of the box. From all reports, the move back to Melbourne and to an environment like Collingwood's has been huge and he has exploded.

Onwards and upwards.

When he was traded most of us would have thought he was a depth player and not in our best 22.

If the copeland was counted tomorrow he would probably be in the top 3.

Thought I might revisit this after a well deserved third place in the Copeland. I can now say with certainty that Crisp's 2015 season was A grade, he now needs to perform over a longer period to earn that label over his career. Whatever alphabetric you want to put before his name, his is a ripper. Just about my favorite player at the club right now, his desire and effort is right up there with Sinclair. A 190cm wrecking ball through the midfield who can win the ball inside, spread on the outside with pace and finish off with a goal or spearing pass, all while shutting down a man and tackling like a maniac. Like a cross of all the best attributes possessed by Goldsack and Greenwood. He is exactly what our side needed and slots into our midfield perfectly.

I can't remember a quicker and more emphatic turnaround for our collective thoughts on a player. At best we thought we were getting someone who might be able to help us as a fringe player at some point. At worst there were those who were disgusted that we allowed ourselves to be ripped off in the Beams deal and didn't insist on Aish or pick 21 (I was on this side of the fence for a time). Fast forward a year and Crisp plays every game and is acknowledged as our third best player for the year. No one would even consider a direct swap with Aish or pick 21. Now, Varcoe may have surprised some but his transformation was nothing like as transcendentent as Crisp's.

Was Scott Burns an A-grader? I considered him an A-Grader. I see so much of Scott Burns in Crisp. If Scott Burns was an A-grader, I think Jack can also become one.

This is a great comparison. Scotty never had the speed of Crisp, but the hardness and intensity in the contest is the key attribute of both. No surprise that Crisp won the Gavin Brown award last night, a great effort for a first year Pie.

Crispy in action (with thanks to some Big Footy poster):

So out of the Beams deal we landed de Goey at pick 5 who has all the traits to be a future star, Greenwood who finished second in Norths B&F last season and now Crisp who has finished 3rd in ours.

Throw in Treloar who placed 2nd with GWS this year and things are looking up.
