If he can tidy up a few little things he's a A-grader.

Can be a touch slow in decision making of occasion, for example his stepping back into traffic in the back pocket tonight.

Its something he can and I'm sure will work on. He is a real find.

The question is, is he better than Medhurst?

Harsh on that pack pocket traffic call, but I remember the incident.
The only other thing I was filthy on him was that junk time clearance just out from 3/4 time, where he stood off Mitchell, who sharked tap-out, pumped it inside 50m for a piss-poo goal.

Oh, and none are better than Medhurst. Ever.

Had to give the handball, we were away if he did. The other one was certainly a lapse in concentration.

I don't mean to hate on him, he is a bloody good player, we are just talking about the difference between B+ and A+

Love Crisp but don't think it's necessary for "revisionist history". Beams was and still is an elite footballer and he'll always be missed as an onballer. However, we have done exceptional to get De Goey and Greenwood plus holding out for an extra player in the deal. Crisp has been fantastic.

"revisionist history" you say? Let's just take the rose-coloured glasses off now shall we? He was solid at the base of packs, and a reliable link player. Had a handy habit of drifting forward, and certainly kicked some clutch goals in his time at the Pies.
Don't let the 30+ stats each week con you... half of them were waxed with Sidebottom for no metres gained. And he was slow as all f*ck.
But best remembered as a premiership spectator. Twice.

inxs88's view is not one I ever shared - I wanted Beams out after 2011 and nothing he did after that changed my view - he is a "neat" footballer, with no particularly damaging weapon. He'll continue to look like a worldbeater at the Bears because the opposition don't need to worry about stopping him to win the game. Give me Crisp's ability to stand up - and dish it out - to Hodge every time: that's a quality that can win flags. Beams doesn't have any such quality.

He certainly played at the level of an A grade footballer tonight.

Put the hard body of Greenwood into the mix tonight and we win that game.

I seriously love watching him play. He's well on his way to being an A-grader and it's scary to think he's only 21 years of age.

People won't admit it now but I doubt anyone expected anything of Crisp and just hoped he would be the icing on the cake somewhat in the Beams trade as most paid their attention to De Goey and Greenwood when the trade occurred so his form has been a pleasant surprise and remarkable to say the least.

I suspect he might be second in the B&F count behind Pendles.

Yep, that caught it perfectly. A neat footballer. But not a matchwinner, ever, as far as I can recall. I've seen Pendlebury, Cloke and Swan all turn the course of a game with their individual quality. I never saw Beams do that. But I can see Crisp getting there. As someone said, he may not be an A-grader yet because he hasn't yet done it for long enough, often enough, but he's certainly close, and i think he'll get there.

Kid has played all of 30 games. Give him another couple of seasons and he may well elevate his game to elite.

Ease up on the Beams revisionist history.

He was and still is a fine player.

"He never influenced the outcomes of games" - you can't be serious? In 2012, he won some games almost single handed for us, he was THAT good.

Having said that, the pain of losing Beams has been massively supressed by the excitement that Jordan De Goey is bringing. His first half tonight head to head with Hodge was stirring stuff. The boy is a superstar in the making.

When I heard that we had Crisp thrown in as the steak knives for the Beams deal - I honestly thought we got ripped off. Who was this rookie lister who was probably going to be delisted anyway?

Woooagh, WHAT. A. PLAYER.

Crisp has added much need hardness and straight line, direct run to our midfield. He is improving every time he sets foot onto the field. How good is Crispy? We still don't know, because his improvement graph is trending upwards sharply.

Beams, you are a Flagpie, thanks for the memories and the excellent service, but, De Goey and Crisp are going to form the nucleus of the NEXT great Collingwood PREMIERSHIP midfield.

Happy days.

beam couldn't and wouldn't tow the line. he thought he's shit didn't stink
and only insiders will know the rumblings he caused internally and we
played our hand in the dealings perfectly.
crisp is getting better by the game and seems to continually go up notch
when the stakes are high against any opponent.
i personally love his attitude along with what varco, de goey, and soon greenwood will bring.
is he an A Grader? who cares. give me a champion team any day rather
than………………………...

What a great discussion on this thread

Thoroughly enjoying all the reasoning & comment from both sides of the opinion

I remember Beamsy's clutch goals and I reckon he stood up for us at those times when we needed something special - also did a lot of grunt work in close & had the smarts to be in the right places for those crucial goals.

Love how this has worked out for us too - exciting times.
