Sad news of the passing of 1958 Premiership Player Ken Turner. He passed away on Friday night. He was aged 86.

Ken played 170 games for Collingwood and was considered by some to be the best player on the ground in the '58 Grand Final. He represented Victoria at interstate football seven times.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ken in 2018. He spoke fondly of his time at Collingwood, but moved away from Victoria and said he didnt watch much football anymore. He spoke about his son winning in 1990 and about his regret for those players that missed out between '58 and '90. He happily took a photo with me on the night too.

A great Collingwood man and a gentleman. RIP Ken.

Makes me question why I still watch it, when ex players don't. Maybe they're on to something. 🤔

He did mention that it didnt sit well with the older players that todays players make millions. I guess those older guys struggled to pay the bills whilst putting it all on the line out on the field. And after retirement would still have to go and work a 9-5.

Doesn't the old Collingwood jumper look great.
No writing no logos no nothing except black and white stripes.
We should have at least one game per season wearing the old style jumper.
That would be fabulous.

I love it.

I wish we went reverted our home jumper back to the pre-2001 design. Essentially, what is now our "away" jumper.

Especially when a lot of the guys making millions carry on like narcissistic knobs who act oh so entitled. I guess it would be easier to swallow watching a professional guy like Pendles ear the cash but others that get paid to travel overseas and end up getting arrested would be difficult to cop.

Vale Ken. I watched a colour film of the 1958 GF, recently on Utube, and he was one our best players on that long ago, but immortal day.

We do wear that very neat jumper now, the one with the little black line in the white stripe, it is good to see it back again, logos or no logos, looks great on TV too. Smile
