It was interesting that Broomhead came straight back into the team after a break with illness. The selection committee must have some concerns about DeGoey to play Armstrong and Broomhead ahead of him after DeGoey had been amongst the best in the VFL for a couple of weeks and those two had actually not played the week before. What could it be that they want Degoey to do that he is not doing right now?
Good to see Ben Kennedy playing well in the VFL. Lets hope he gets to put some pressure to play well for the likes of Kanezis, Broomhead and Varcoe.
I would like to see the introduction of both DeGoey and Kennedy for this weeks game vs Richmond;
In: Seedsman, Ramsay, DeGoey, Kennedy
Out; Armstrong, Dwyer, Broomhead, Karnezis
Varcoe to play as the sub. _________________ Collingwood Domination. Envy of the Nation! |

you might have hit on something whatever it could be. as good as jdg has been going it's not the end of the world if he is not playing seniors just yet. oin looking for like for like players to omit who would he be ahead of? does he push out pendles, swan, crisp or sidebottom (when injury free)? is he ahead of broomhead or kennedy? what about our small forwards and spare me the instinctively reactionary "blair" response. could he play on a wing?
anyway, it will be terrific to see him eventually cement a spot in our senior team whenever that might be. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

You know considering where we are in the stage of our development, happy to hold back the gun kids to really develop their game and hunger... Don't want to give away the season but don't want to over play it either..

After tonight's VFL game where DeGoey smashed down the door. We are wasting his talent in the VFL and not accelerating his development enough there. Needs to get a string of games at afl level.
Trusting Magpiebat will be an ally here. |
FACT: Young players cannot stand up to the rigors of a 22 week season!
I wonder if the plan is to start feeding these guys in later in the season. |
Yes the kid may tire. So what. Take him out of the side then. We missed an opportunity to play him. If the kid is going to tire later why then wait to the later part of the season to play him. Makes no sense.
We played Armstrong instead. What did that gain in the grand scheme? It was a short term decision IMO and was a lost opportunity. |
Actually it is almost certainly a long term decision dufus. clearly, we are not picking a side that is our best 22 today but instead are trying to handle Degoey in a way that can make him a 12-15 year star for the club.
Are you one of the guys that craps on about how good the hawks are. this is Hawks 101. don't bring in a kid until he is ready to be a star so that you don't limit his ceiling. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

Yet to accelerate team and game plan development you need these kids playing alongside senior regulars, there is also a point where hunger meets frustration....
Holding back genuine talents does nothing for their development imo. |

I don't think there's any need for ad hominem attacks, especially when you can't even spell "doofus" correctly.
And your point about Hawthorn makes no sense.
Jordan Lewis played 19 games in his rookie year. Was he "ready to be a star" then (hint: no, he was pretty ordinary)? Buddy Franklin played 20 in his rookie year for a total of 21 goals. No star there. Roughead played 16 and averaged not much more than 10 disposals and less than 1 goal every 2 games. Cyril Rioli played every game his rookie season.
So who are these stars who the Hawks held back?
Players are ready when they're ready and / or the club doesn't have any better options and De Goey is ready. If he gets tired, then give him a rest. But holding him back because he might get tired and playing Tony Armstrong instead? Yeah, that's dumb. _________________ "We ain't gotta dream no more" |
