Simple then.
Cox stays at full forward all night and Stanley gets run off his feet.
If Cox can impose himself early again, then we are off to the races.

Play in front and be first to give and go forward and we'll be sorted.

No real surprise we've gone in unchanged given the potential in's all had some genuine queries over their form themselves.

Thomas still needs to pull his finger out as zero tackles from a small forward not delivering on the scoreboard isn't good enough.

Looking at the list of emergencies we have 3 kids and 1 soon to be retired player listed.

I read that as we won't be pulling any late changes unless forced or are prepared to cop a fine and bring in someone not listed.

I remember one match we were playing Scotch College. The umpire must have been a Melbourne High School “Old Boy” as the first 18 hadn’t lost a match in years and we were getting done by Scotch till the last quarter. That quarter must have gone on for 4O odd minutes and sounded when “we” hit the front. 😉😉

Stolen from a post at bigfooty.

Changes from the last time we played.

Pies:
In: Cox; Thomas; Madgen; Greenwood; Cameron
Out: Phillips; Wills; C Brown; Varcoe; A2B2

Cats:
In: Henderson; Stewart; Stanley; Duncan
Out: Stevens; Clark; Fort; Ratugolea

All 4 of the Cats ins improves them while Selwood was injured early in our last game.

In the end it was de Goey with his 5 goals that proved the difference.

We'll need to improve on that performance you suspect if we're to beat them again.

Geelong are favourites with the bookmakers, but I don’t know why.Probably because they finished higher on the ladder than us?But that doesn’t mean anything in the finals. It’s more relevant that we’ve beaten them the last two times we’ve played them, including the semi final last year.In that final we were without Cox and DeGoey and yet we still managed to beat them. There’s no reason why we can’t do it again, but we must play with the same intensity and desperation that we showed last week against the Eagles,

Cats will want revenge for having their pants pulled down earlier this year. The little master will be fired up to avoid retiring on a finals loss too. I’d be wary of Geelong

A week is a long time in footy let alone an year. Unlikely to be an exact repeat.

Cats are the oldest side in the AFL, but still good. Keep a tight lid on Duckwood, Dangermouse, Dawkins, keep em to average games, thats the key to this one. Plus, bring the intensity, pressure, manic determination, we did last week, and we can definitely beat these old pricks. !

Im excited, Woods by 11 points, in a close, dour, tough game, our sort of game we love to play.

Allowing for the fact we win & then knock off Brions who would we prefer to meet in GF. Tiggers or Snort

Maaaate, lets just take it ONE Final at a time. As a Magpie Veteran, i learnt years ago, to never ever, count the chickens. Lets do handbag Cats first, the GF is still a long way off yet. Surprised

No parallels can be drawn between the results of this year and of the previous year. Likewise, no parallels can be drawn between results earlier this year with results now. This year is infinitely complex, infinitely unpredictable, and infinitely chaotic. That is why we still stand a chance to win the flag. That is why nothing about the result of our game tomorrow can be deduced from what happened when we played them earlier in the year.
The only evidence we have is recent form and momentum.
Our recent form is in the ascendancy: not bad against PA, and excellent against WCE. Geelong: are contradictory, but their form last week against PA was actually not bad at all. They could easily have won that game.
We also have to consider psychological factors. Did we play our GF last week? Or have our guys got the hunger in their bellies, and are breathing fire to win the 2020 flag? Is Geelong deeply mortified by their loss last week, and roaring with anger? Or is Selwood being rushed back underdone, while they feel pretty damn confident, given our inconsistency, and our reliance on unptredictable, but unreliable, X factors (Cox, Stepho, and to some extent JDG)?
This is a psychological thriller between two teams very evenly poised.
I know I am extremely biased, but we will win if we have the fire in our belly, because Geelong will not be able to cope with our aggressive and chaotic ball movement, even if they are roaring.
We will need ferocious pressure as well at all times.
I am happy we have gone in unchanged. Cox staying back permanently in the goal square will create trepidation among their defenders to the same extent that Hawkins does for ours. As others have pointed out, Dangerfield is our greatest Danger. But he cant win it by himself. I would throw the Pig on Duckwood, who could be a tentative ball carrier. I would then aim to suppress Duncan/Parfitt (whoever is their next most dangerous mid). I don;t think you can tag Danger successfully. So you suffocate him by blanketing those who feed off him.
If we find some kind of strategy to negate Dangerfield, I think we will win.
