Old news now, but just another example of Langer's putrid coaching.

Thanks K; well I'm in the Finch-camp here.
It was behind square, so his call being the non-striker.

Reacting like nobody's ever stuffed up a call. Sad

There are probably many batsmen who've never been involved in a run out. Aside from that, there are clear differences in the communication skills of different batsmen. Running with Smith or Khawaja is more dangerous than running with Michael Slater (who, remember, ran out Hayden several times before Hayden was secure in the Test side).

It also leaves a bitter taste in the mouth when someone who is frequently involved in run outs almost always is the one who survives, while his partner is burnt. S. Waugh was a bit like that, and Smith may have taken it to a new level. I remember the opposite from Border, selflessly sacrificing his wicket so new kid Jimmy Maher, possibly in his first (Queensland) one-day match, could have a decent bat when he overexcitedly ran off and ended up at the same end as Border.

Smith's batting in a bubble has probably helped his batting on these modern flat, lifeless pitches, but maybe it's also caused all these run outs.

Deano:

"For one-day internationals, Glenn Maxwell has not been as consistent as he has hoped and the Australian selectors’ patience is wearing thin. Maxwell’s No.1 job when he has played for the Australian ODI team is to score runs. But he has only four 50s in his past 39 matches and has not adjusted to match situations. Add in the factor that bowlers around the world are bombing him with bouncers and he hasn’t found an answer to it.
...

Stoinis is very watchable in this vein of form, but I feel he has too long lived off that brilliant ODI 146 not out against New Zealand some three years ago. Sadly for Stoinis, he has only made one 50 in his past 20 ODIs. His role in the team has been questionable. Is he a banger who bowls some overs or is he a specialist bowler who just hits a few at the death?"

Maxwell was named in both Oz's T20 and ODI squads for S. Africa. Wade is also in both squads. Stoinis missed both.

'Hohns said Stoinis was first reserve for both formats, but had been considered only for a top-order role.

"(Stoinis) was unlucky to miss out due to the makeup of the current top order," Hohns said.

"It is terrific to have a backup player of his calibre in such good form."'

Maxwell is having surgery and is out. I guess that means Stoinis will be in.

No, not Stoinis! It's D'Arcy Short! (Again.) Shouldn't believe anything Hohns says, right?
