Seriously if I was still a mod, you’d get an automatic yellow. |
A premiership captain who failed at the basic skills of being a defender and that is actually stopping an opponent or at the basic skills of kicking a football. Fantastic if he could be 3rd man up all day and have no responsibility and just punch the ball...
But in the best 22 players of the last 50 years? Not likely, not even the last 20 years, we have had some very, very good defenders who could actually beat an opponent and hit a target by foot! |

Correct weight. People have nostalgia blinding their eyes. Loved what he did, but he wouldn't be in our best 50 defenders from that era... _________________ Get back on top. |

Calling him an “overrated hack” is disrespectful and unnecessary, especially when not even having the balls to name him directly, and not bothering to nominate a better choice even though there are apparently at least 45 options _________________ https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/sav-sinks-the-dockers/ |

Am I reading this correctly? Is there criticism of Nick Maxwell?
Without Nick Maxwell's heroics in the last quarter of the drawn 2010 Grand Final, St Kilda would have won the 2010 premiership. I think that Maxy deserves his place in this side. |

I completely agree he wouldn’t be in the Best 22 of the last 50 years.
I don’t agree about the ‘hack’ reference. _________________ Go Pies! |

Did I say "overrated hack"?
I inferred that he was overrated in a list of great, skilled defenders, not sure I'll get to 50 but I'll have a crack with 20. Born in 1970 but my late 70s memory is very foggy, nothing before '77.
James Clement [on the bench, should be starting], Gavin Crosisca, Jeremy Howe, Ben Johnson, Harry O'Brien, Shane Morwood, Alan Toovey, Shane Wakelin, Ben Reid, Michael Christian, Ron McKeown, Alan Richardson, Brayden Maynard, Kevin Worthington, Greg Phillips, Tom Langdon, Levi Greenwood, Gary Pert, Mal Michael, Jack Crisp.
All of those guys could/can negate their man one on one.
If Maxy didn't play in a flag... think it through. Credit to him for having some of his best moments, and thankfully he did, in the 2010 Finals. If he was any good as a defender he could have been switched on to Hawkins in 2011 and would have shut him down.
Great bloke, great leader, but skills wise up there with Carl Steinfort and Chris Mayne. Not that that is bad, its just not good for comparisons. He was great at sagging off his man and going third man up or intercepting. _________________ Get back on top. |

And every club these days is looking for defenders who can sag off his man, go 3rd man up or intercept mark.
From a pure skill level, neither Maxwell or Tony Shaw deserved to play AFL/VFL football but they're both premiership captains. They contributed more than skill and stats. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

on the teams to 2019 —Bucks has 2012 ,2013,2018 & 2019 with team that made finals
Prior to him coaching I think Mick had a string of finals leading to 2010 flag
So now does Bucks break thru for a much wanted premiership _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |
