How often do people drive (turning right) through the lights when pedestrians are walking across with the green man?

There's a notorious intersection on Keilor road in Niddrie where there's near misses just about daily.

On the west coast of the USA the drivers are ridiculously tolerant of pedestrians. On the other hand, plant yourself at the corner of Elizabeth and Franklin Sts in the City and watch. I have NFI how we don't get 2-3 deaths per day.

I remember once crossing at the green signal on the Acland Street/Fitzroy Street intersection in St Kilda and got some guy in a ute turning right beeping his horn and telling me to “hurry up”. I made sure to stare at him blankly and walk extra slowly the rest of the way across.

It's no challenge if you're walking against the red light.

Anyway, since when do people try to cross roads in Niddrie without full armour? That sort of behaviour might get them killed.

You should try tourist season in Tocumwal. There's no traffic lights at all, people are expected to use common sense which is interesting when you pile a thousand Melbournians into a NSW country town

^ Well, it's a long walk to the sea when you're in Tocumwal, so people could be a bit confused in "tourist season" there.

Not everyone wants salt water, I was up there over the weekend and the campers are everywhere, nearly up to January levels when you easily get an extra thousand plus in the town.

And they aren't all camped on the beaches, lots are just on bushland overlooking the river

Sea or Murray Valley encephalitis. It’s a difficult choice.

No sharks, sting rays or blue ring Octopus in the Murray

The occasional tiger snake going for a swim is as easy to avoid as a drunken jet ski pilot
