Yep it's that time of the year again & my favourite time of the year!
After Jose Altuve's hit the walk off home run to give the Astros that WS birth v The Nationals we had Game 1 kicking off yesterday (11:00am our time) @ Minute Maid Park in Houston.

I'm not overly fussed on who wins this, just wanna see a good ball game.

Game 2 about to start in 2mins.

WSH leads 1-0 taking out Game 1 yesterday, 5-4 after Houston got an early 0-2 lead in the first dig.
WSH piled in 1 run, in the 2nd, 1 in the 4th & 3 big runs in the 5th. Houston got 1 each in the 7th & 8th inning but wasn't enough to get over the line.

Game 1 @ Houston, Wednesday 23/10
Game 2 @ Houston, Thursday 24/10
Game 3 @ Washington, Saturday 26/10
Game 4 @ Washington, Sunday 27/10
Game 5 @ Washington, Monday 28/10
Game 6 @ Houston, Wednesday 30/10
Game 7 @ Houston, Thursday 31/10

My cousin grew up in Washington... well just outside of.

The Capitals won the NHL a couple seasons ago. Can the Nationals take it from a 2-0 lead. Nothing is guaranteed in Baseball, not until that final innings is over.

If they do hold on, it'll be up to the Wizards and the Redskins... Laughing

Well, yesterday's game started off quite well... I thought great, 2 all after the first dig, gonna be a good game! But the WSH bats came alive in the 7th with 6 runs batted in.
It began with a massive solo HR from Suzuki. They then added another 3 in the 8th & 1 more in the 9th.
Houston could only reply with 1 run in the bottom of the 9th eventually WSH crushing Houston 12-3.

WSH now leads the series 2-0.

Tomorrow's Game 3 begins at 11:00 am (our time) @ Nationals Park in WSH.
Houston have dug themselves in a big hole here.
They can still win the WS but it will be tough, they need to win the next 3 on the road to remain in contention.

Wasn't a good day at the office for Justin Verlander yesterday -
6.0 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 3 W & 6 SO.

Stephen Strasberg fared better -
6.0 IP, 2 ER, 7 H, 1 W & 7 SO.

The Astros have fought back & won Game 3 today 4-1.

6 Pitchers all up for the Astros today with Zack Greinke doing the damage in 4.2, IP only allowing 1 run in the bottom of the 4th. He finished off with 7 H & 6 SO.

Adam Eaton was very aggressive at the plate as was Asdrubal Cabrera both gathering 2 hits. Victor Robles was the only one to get an RBI for the Nats.

The Houston Astros scored 1 run in each of the 2nd, 3rd & 5th inning plus a solo HR to Robinson Chirinos in the 6th to get them the W & stay alive.
Jose Altuve continuing his good form 2 dbls & scoring twice.
All up they had 11 hits with 4 players registering 2 hits each & 3 players getting 1 hit each.

Anibal Sanchez finished up with 5.1 IP 10 H & 4 SO.
The Nats 2 errors didn't help.

Game 4 tomorrow @ 11:00am.

Series now WSH 2 HOU 1

'Houston will turn the ball over to Jose Urquidy for game four on Saturday.

"Obviously we used a lot of resources tonight but this is the World Series were are going to keep going at it," said Hinch.

"Jose Urquidy's been really good for us. He's started a little bit, he's been in the pen. We are going to turn the ball over to him in the first inning and give him an opportunity to go as deep as he can." '

World Series Game 4 ended with Houston capping off a massive 1-8 win.
Alex Bregman started the Astros off in the bottom of the 1st as they started off with a 2-0 lead.
2 run HR into LF by Robinson Chirinos in the 4th got Houston up to 4-0 lead.
However, the best part of the night was yet to come for Houston's Alex Bregman hitting a Grand Slam in the top of the 7th to put the game beyond reach for WSH.

Jose Urquidy pitched fantastically, 5 shut out innings before coming off for Houston.
5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R & 4 SO.

Nats only managed 1 run in the top of the 6th off Juan Soto but that was the only real highlight for them for the night.

Patrick Corbin -
6.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R & 5 SO.

Game 5 starts in under an hour.

Some great Baseball though, great fielding at 3B by Nats Anthony Rendon & a great catch at SS by Astros Carlos Correa.

Game series tied now at 2-2.

One more game in WSH today before heading back to Houston for Games 6 & 7.

It was all Houston in DC today!
Final scores 1-7.

Yordan Alvarez (top 2nd) & Carlos Correa (top 4th) batted in 2 run Homers.
Nats could only manage 1 run in the bottom of the 7th to Juan Soto.

The WSH fans went ape shit at the Plate Umpire for making a bad call ending the 7th.

Here's the footage.

https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/nationals/fans-nationals-livid-after-blown-call-ends-7th-inning

A bit of framing my Martin Maldonado though...

They now lead the series 3-2.
One win away from winning their 2nd WS title in as many years, their first W was in 2017.

Gerrit Cole did the damage -
7.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 W & a whopping 9 SO.

Nats pitcher Joe Ross stats -
5.0 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 W & only 1 SO.

Travel day tomorrow with Game 6 back in Houston on Wednesday @ 11:00am (our time).

A Dreary World Series Bursts to Life in Game 6

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/29/sports/world-series-game-6.html

"They call it the Fall Classic, but the name does not always apply. The World Series can be lopsided, as most of the games have been in the 115th version this year. It needed a night like Tuesday, when the Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros staged a thriller that officially made this a World Series unlike any other."

Game 6 started well for the Nats, they brought in 1 run in the 1st dig with Antony Rendon bringing in Trea Turner to score.

Astros answered with 2 of their own beginning with lead off batter George Springer hitting a double. He then stole 90feet when the ball hit the dirt sliding into 3rd & in scoring position.
Up next to the plate came Jose Altuve, he hits a sac fly to LF, caught by 21yo Juan Soto. George Springer tags up & takes off as the ball flies in to the catcher but George Springer slides head first into Home to get the Astros on the board.
Alex Bregman steps up & smashes a Homer, the Astros fans went wild as they took the lead 2-1.
Unfortunately for the Astros, that was the only highlight of the night!

Top of the 5th saw the Nats tie the game from a solo Homer over the RF fence from Adam Eaton. Juan Soto thought he'd get into the action smashing a ball into the second tier to right of centre.

The shit hit the fan in the top of the 7th when Trea Turner got called out for runner interference, he ran inside the foul line & knocked Yuli Gurriel's glove out of his hand thus dropping the ball.
Manager Dave Martinez got into a heated argument with officials & was then ejected out of the game.
Anthony Rendon answered with a 2 run Homer over LF making the scores now 2-5.
The job was not yet complete for Anthony Rendon bringing another 2 RBI, off the wall this time to make the final scores 2-7.

Stephen Strasburg was the man yesterday -

8.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 W & 7 SO.

Sean Doolittle wrapped up the game -

0.2 IP & 1 H.

Astros went through 5 pitchers.

Justin Verlander started but didn't fare so well -

5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 W & 3 SO.

Game 7 & the decider in just over an hour.

PLAY BALL!

The WSH Nationals are World Champions, they won their 1st WS title in Franchise history, final scores 2-6.

Zack Greinke on the mound today did really well -

6.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 W & 3 SO.

Felt sorry for him in the end though, all his hard work undone.

Yuli Gurriel got the Astros the start they needed with a solo HR in the bottom of the 2nd.
The fans were up, the choo, choo train started to roll...
Carlos Correa hit a double from a hit down the 3B line just missing a diving 3rd baseman Anthony Rendon (ball actually hit the glove & ricochet into the fence) as Yuli Gurriel crossed the plate again adding another run in the bottom of the 5th.
The Houston fans ecstatic at this point with a 2-0 lead heading into the 6th.

Top of the 7th & Anthony Rendon solos bringing the scores 2-1.

Zack Greinke gets taken off & replaced by Will Harris, he walks Juan Soto when in steps DH Howie Kendrick to the plate & wouldn't you know it, he does the job!
Smashes a ball to RF hitting the foul pole that hit brings in Juan Soto & himself to give the Nats the lead 2-3.

Top 8th & Juan Soto featuring again this time, he drills a base hit out to RF, Adam Eaton scores after being walked, the lead now 2-4.
WSH adds 2 more in the 9th to make the scores 2-6, with the bases loaded, the line drive to centre by Adam Eaton brings in Yan Gomes & Victor Robles.
The Nats dug out in raptures!

Max Scherzer best of the Nats pitchers -

5.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 4 W & 3 SO.

The Willie Mays MVP went to Nationals Stephen Strasburg.

The Spring Countdown is now on.
Pitchers & catchers report on Feb., 12th 2020.

Until next time, this is Annodam signing off.
