Should trade imo
Sidebottom or Treloar move to the wing
Daicos as back-up

Lacks strength, too slow, below average mark, no right foot and goes missing in big games. IMO Must Trade or be dropped from our 22

And look for "meters gained" and endurance running

Wow. Two days on Nick's and you're putting up controversial polls regarding the merits or should I say demerits of Tom Phillips??? I like it Smile

The OP is ridiculous - Phillips played two less games in 2019 than he did in 2018. Of course his numbers are down. If you look at the game averages, the only significant change is that he is kicking more and handballing less.

I don't see Phillips as a "sacred cow" by any means but I hope the Club has a more subtle approach to making such decisions - otherwise we might have to trade out De Goey, whose goalkicking output was dramatically down this year from last.

Good to have you back. I missed your polls on almost every thread you started.
Wingers are now one of the most important positions in the game. Other than no right foot, Phillips provides absolutely everything the modern winger is required to produce every week. Far from a tradable commodity.

Very average skilled player with no non-preferred foot; very ordinary deficiency in this age. Went out with Ronnie Wearmouth!!!!
Jamie Elliott is at least twice his value when it comes to winning games.

Oh snap, I forgot to take out the 2 finals extra from 2018. Thanks for that (again) PS4!

It would still appear that his clearences are way down, along with his 1%'s would you agree? So when you do look at his averages then those 2 stats are significantly down. Not just the fact that he kicks more. ( Due to the fact he may be sipping his own bath water ).

Did i forget to mention that he is also not very aggressive? Also may lack mental-stregth.

Oh i got another one for you

Contested Marks
2018 - 5
2019 - 5

( Not good enough ) Basically have to wait a month for him to take a contested mark

Thanks Pies2016

With all due respect, when Tom Phillips saw Jeremy Finnlayson on the wing next to him, im sure he would have been a bit worried. He is not the first person who has exposed Tom Phillps in the air or in the contest. Sure Tom does have his strengths, but imo the weaknesses outweigh the strengths drastically. On top of that our current 22 contains around 9 players who all weigh under 80kg, this is concerning as a supporter when we head into big finals games. Sure the Giants only weighed an extra 40 combined kg's than Collingwood, but that is a big difference when you place that extra weight over 6 or so match-ups.
We had players being physically dominated all over the ground.

Agree

Letting players like Elliot walk, while players like Phillips and Hoskin-Elliot and im tempted to say Steele but i wont ( Season-Players ) remain, is the reason why we may very well close our own window!!!!

Not worth a damn when your skills dont provide the end product. Endurance is not worth a damn either when your slow as a turtle.

It would appear our coaching staff think differently.
SIXTH in the 2018 Copeland in a team that played in a G F is hardly a tradable commodity. He will likely sneak into the top 10 again this year.
As for 2019, just check out his game against the Cats in the final.
His first half set the victory up. ( 29 touches )
Was disappointing against the Giants but so were 15 others.
Maybe we should trade them all ?

If you’re going to trade, then trade in where you have a weakness.
You don’t trade out a strength and then look to replace it again.
He durable, reliable and consistent. That alone would suggest Collingwood should do whatever they can to keep him.

I could not give a stuff about Copeland 6th place finish mate. He is definetly not Collingwoods 6th best player

Tom Phillips is a weakness, dress it up all you like. You found one final he had 29 touches lol. Most because Geelong let him run around as he is not capable of causing damage. The more Phillips gets the ball, the better for the opposition.

Wake up, he is always disappointing, Collingwood always over-rating their own again in this case. Should ask Clarkson and the Hawks if they would take him. Love to hear the response you get...

Here’s the thing, in my world I take cold hard facts over an opinion anyway.
Don’t bother arguing with me about not being worthy of finishing sixth in the Copeland. Maybe you should argue with the coaching panel and their 1000 plus AFL games of experience.
We both know why DeGoey polled less than Phillips, even you can do better than that. It’s hardly Phillips fault that he prepares himself well enough to have virtually not missed a game since he debuted.
Maybe a few others should follow in his footsteps.

Oh and when you start dismissing recent finals performances, you know you’re losing the argument.
Next you will be wanting to trade Grundy off.
