This guy had to play ! Reid has been finished for a while now, they could have shaz in defence and throw Howe forward to take marks. Reid drops too many and shanked a match winner. Seriously why pick shaz freeman and then get aish in and not play him??? What if they had picked Cripps at 6, well never know but huge draft error cost us 18-19 flags

Let's stay calm. It only cost us two flags, not 18 or 19.

Shaz may need to reinvent himself in another position if he is to have longevity at the Pies. He is competing against:

* Howe
* Langdon
* Murphy
* Madgen
* Moore
* Kelly
* Quaynor
* Roughead

for spots in defence. Having lost most of his pace to crippling leg injuries, a forward spot may seem an unnatural fit, however given our dearth of 190cm smart, talented talls up there, it may be worth a crack if:

1. He is retained on the list and
2. He get's some pre-season opportunities there

INXS Scharenberg is miles ahead of Madgen Murphy his direct competition
IQ is the Murray replacement
Kelly is Dunn’s replacement
Roughead is a tall defender
Howe is closer but age is against him
Langdon is cooked unlikely to be around much longer be it medical retirement or after next season when his contract is up

Scharenberg is back from a 3rd knee and whether the club managed him or what we don’t know
Against the cats there wasn’t a match up for him it actually made sense
He should have played against gws simple
It was a massive mistake not to play him

I would be careful if I was the club I wouldn’t be in a rush to trade him his best football is still in front of him and the kicker for the club is he’s great mates with Grundy they lived together for a couple years
Scharenberg was a highly rated junior you don’t lose ability it’s been his body that’s let him down if the club believes his rehab was done right and he can play regular afl level footy he stays

When you’ve played many fewer games than Ben Reid over the last 6 seasons, you’re probably on thin ice, irrespective of your ostensible “talent”.

Agree with all you say qldmagpie - naturally. Wink

I've explained previously several times why I think his apparent lack of pace is more than compensated for by his footy smarts. His disposal effectiveness is also extraordinarily high, which is vital for any player.

I'd say very little.

He's been injured for years, remember? At this point he's a player with a lot of talent but no proven capacity to deliver due to things totally out of his control.

Purging players like him is not the solution to our issues.

We didn't lose the prelim because of who we played on the half back line. We lost it in the midfield plain and simple. Schaz would have made no difference where it mattered.

Bingo. The mids need to put their hand up for this one.

Nup, can't agree Rudeboy. Schazz would've had a far better disposal efficiency than Johnny Noble and Aish had one touch after half time. I think he could well have been better value when the third quarter onslaught from GWS happened.
