Geez, I wouldn't think trading Cox would be on the clubs mind at all. He's contracted until the end of 2020.
With him at full forward and Elliot, Stevo,JDG, JT etc feeding off the big fella we have a potent set up.
Was starting to get paid some frees too before he went out (Avg almost 2/game) and was hitting the scoreboard (Avg 1.4 goals) this season.

He's only played 58 games and with another pre-season under his belt, is only going to get better.
I would like to think they will work on his kicking to try and get a bit more distance. I've seen him kick a few from close to 50 out, but not consistently.

ask yourself a question do you think Collingwood is in the serious business of winning premierships? if the answer is no then the club should fold

Well done Stui for that analysis. Fwiw, here's my 2 bobs worth.

Where will improvement come from?

Grundy to learn how to ruck properly.

I think he's doing very well. Most journos would have him in the top 10 players in the league. Can he improve? Of course he can, but there's 20 other blokes on the team that need to improve their craft before you can take a shot at Grundy.

Don't get me wrong CP, I rate Grundy as the best ruckman I've ever seen - better than Len Thompson. However, it's his phenomenal athleticism and ability to play as a midfielder which stands him out above all other ruckmen imo. As far as the effectiveness of his tap work is concerned, he is still a work in progress, evidenced by his monumental dominance of taps in the Prelim, yet, as both Sam Mitchell and Riewoldt reckon, his failure to turn this dominance to our team's advantage was a decisive factor in our loss. Strangely, on the weekend, Grundy both kept us in the game and cost us the game. Go figure. Confused

Our midfield spuds - collectively, the most expensive midfield spuds in history - are to blame. Seriously, if the second-string GWS midfield could work out where he was hitting the ball, why couldn't our blokes?

Getting Crisp and JDG in the midfield should help, plus a bit more development from Wills.

I think the biggest issue is our gameplan when surging forward. That is, we don't surge forward. The defence has been brilliant but in attack we're very slow and predictable. Getting a tall forward doesn't fix that, it's the ball movement that is the problem IMO. If they could make space for each other in order to then kick spearing passes to our smaller forwards they could outmark bigger bodies, but we rarely flowed well this year.

I think the easiest thing to fix is getting a new midfield coach to fix clearances and a new plan for attacking play.

Then we definitely do need a better tall forward. Cox and Checkers both try, but neither are even B graders, if we're honest with ourselves. Not their fault, but that's the reality, IMO.

A full, fit, consistent playing list for most of the year.. That would be a good start.

I remember someone started a post about this but I can't find it. Could Grundy play forward and Cox go into the ruck full-time?

Our midfield knew exactly where he was hitting the ball, the problem was they were mainly predictable short taps to congestion. At centre bounces they scragged and blocked our midfielders and generally got away with it, at stoppages round the ground they swarmed our players.

Check the data, GWS are a very good stoppage team, they get more goals from stoppages than turnovers IIRC.

What we need to do to take advantage of Grundy's dominance is find ways to hit the ball to advantage that are clear to our mids but not as obvious to the opposition. If he's predictable, the opposition can act with confidence, if he's less predictable to them, we have an advantage
