I have always said that the pies play TOO FAIR..

Where do our players push in the back ,knock players off the ball jump into peoples backs

We have never been a physical team and we are too NICE.

Couldn't agree more with that statement! Ours are a great bunch of skilled football players and usually find it hard against thugs, Leigh Brown would have been useful in the clearances.

As far as i can see we have one of two options moving into 2020:

Back in the current list (bank on success to help us negotiate players to stay on less money). Hope we have a better run on injuries.

Go back to the Draft and Hit the trade table: This will mean cutting players, probably allowing Elliott to walk "without much of a fight" hope we get a good pick. Trade some names we might not even have thought of yet. Try to grab one of our major needs a key forward. Free up the cash to keep the guns on the list (Grundy, Moore, DeGoey etc).

Big question, is this current list good enough to win a flag? Who knows we have not seen close to our best 22 on the park for long enough.

But judging from what we have seen, we have lost a Grand Final and now a Prelim by under a goal.....The last few Premiers and the two teams playing off in this years Grand final all have and have (had) key forwards of note.....I am not sure this current list can win a Premiership without one....

I think this all depends on how much confidence the club has that Cox will finally deliver some consistent good footy for us as our tall forward. If he rises to the occasion then we'll be fine, but if he remains as inconsistent as ever, then we will struggle.

He doesn't need to star every week, but he should be kicking 50 goals a season and providing a good marking contest, bringing the ball to ground if he can't mark it. If he does that, we won't need another tall forward imo.

I'd still like a tough, big bodied and skillful midfielder to help us improve our contested ball and clearance rates. I had hoped Sier would do that for us, but the impression I get is that he doesn't care enough to make it happen. Wills is a pure negator, but not fast enough or pro-active enough imo.

If only we could clone JDG, and have one on the ball and another up forward. Cool

Yeah I think strange as it might seem, we are defs short a clearance type midfielder. Don't need to be huge, see for instance Sam Mitchell and Luke Ball, but it definitely helps. Win a decent clearance more often than not and get a handball chain going and average forwards can become great as defenders are caught unprepared.

But they're hard to find. Crisp I think will play almost exclusively mid next year. So that might be enough.

We definitely need a forward who can put pressure on Cox/Checkers through the season and eventually replace one of them . Hard to see us winning a flag with those two as our prime forwards. Especially if Elliot leaves/is injured again, which (if you add the odds of the two things together) is overwhelmingly likely.

How do our injuries lists stack up against othe4 teams this year? To me it seems far less soft tissue, but a few more serious long term injuries. A fewhamstrings but thats the norm.

It's a myth that if it's not soft-tissue injuries, then it must be okay and there's nothing that can be done. For some things that may be true, but not for everything. There's not much that can be done to prevent an opponent kicking your hand and breaking it, but there must be many things that increase or decrease the odds of knee injuries.

The media showed this list halfway through the year, but it doesn't tell us soft-tissue vs. hard-.

Yep footy is not cricket.
Or could we be like Donald Bradman who allowed England to take the ashes rather than stoop to their dirty tactics. Somethings are more important than winning, but int the case of footy, dirty tricks are pretty much an accepted part of the game and come with their own skill and subtlety.

Buckley is a purest. It is not his way to infringe. His theory is to get to the ball first and win the game within the rules.

And on the rare occasion we don't play fair, it stands out to the umps and we get pinged for it. Case in point: The Fremantle game at MCG this year: DeGoey nudges his opponent out to take a mark and is freed against. Despite: Dusty doing exactly the same thing the night before (and getting away with it); Tom Hawkins doing it several times a game; Finlayson doing it in 2019 finals (probably been doing it as much as Hawkins except rarely do we see GWS games).

I totally agree. I said Saturday night that as a club we have lacked mongrel since the time of The Machine. I'm happy to retract a lot of what I said Saturday night (through sheer disappointment), but I won't detract that comment.

All my life Collingwood has been the Mr Nice Guy's club going up against the nasties of Melbourne (in the 50s and early 60s), the Carltons (remember when they took no prisoners?) and in recent times the ultimate nasties in Hawthorn (though we rarely played them in finals). Every time in these eras we wet the finals bed because we just could stand the heat.

The one team that stands out from the others was our 1990s premiership team. If I mention three blokes by name you will know what I mean: Millane, Banks, Kelly. My God what we'd do to have some blokes like that in our side now.

I said on Saturday night that the New England Patriots are successful in the NFL because they don't care what anyone thinks about them (a bit like the Giants' attitude). They just win at all costs. Someone mocked me and suggested this was because they bent the rules or cheated. Well that was precisely my point!

Very rarely in sport do Mr Nice Guys take the chocolates. In physical sports like football the toughest team ALWAYS wins.

I'm still here and I'll still be supporting Collingwood. But if this loss doesn't hurt us there's something wrong. As Nathan Buckley himself said at his press conference, "This year has been a waste".

To succeed next year we need to recruit some hard-bodied (tall) tough nuts! I would seriously try to poach Mitch Robinson from Brisbane. Talk about a tough in and under S.O.B. That's the kind of player we need, only TALLER.

Earlier this year (and even last year) I said we needed to target and recruit Cunnington from North. The EXACT type of complimentary player we needed for our ‘pretty’ midfield. Unfortunately he signed long term with North this season.

Maybe if JDG can stay injury free he can be THAT guy. Time will tell.

We are not able to put together four quarters of good footy.

It is no different to how we played all year. Playing one or two good quarters a game got us some wins, but it would not have won us a Grand Final.

yep, true, problem is the umpires dont care, and the likes of green and Hawkins, mumford get away with doing the opposite. the only way is to fight back. i truly believe if JDG had played we win, however, add Greenwood to that, our only player really willing to take it to them and not just reply, well, we would still be in it.

as others have said, we need a bitch, and fast, anyone know a terminator/alien type that can play??
