Congrats to Brodie on winning the 2nd of your eventual 7th All Australian selection. Nothing wrong with a bit of confidence Smile . So the recent media announcements have suggested Brodie wants 7 years and the Pies want to give him 3 years albeit with higher cash per year. 5 years would be more than reasonable and the club can avoid a 28 year old Grundy potentially going home or us fans enduring another shall he or not re-sign in 2022...…

We are bearing witness to a once in 40 year Ruckmen/virtual mid-fielder whose only 25 years old! He is head and shoulders our best player and like Pendlebury has enjoyed for the past 5 years, should be adequately compensated for his efforts and results. Ned Guy and Brodie: "get it done"!

Probably already a thread on this, but surely the club are lunatics if they've only offered him 3 years. Maybe the goal is to start there and bargain their way to the 5 years that they actually want, but otherwise that just sounds like a total slap in the face and an unnecessarily risky approach.

What I take from this is that he wants to stay long term. That’s all that matters. It will get done, but the club are doing the right thing by not giving in to 7 years. That’s a ridiculous contract length. I know it’s happening with Dusty, Lynch, Coniglio etc but it’s very risky.

5 years and everyone is happy.

Was not Buddy Franklin a long ,long ,long one

And I think he still has some years left—he has slipped in form in recent times
so going fwd Sydney doubtful get full value

My take is anything over 5 is going into the unknown

I think 5 years is fair enough. It'll take him through to the age of 32. If he's still as good as he is now then we can lock him in for another 1 or 2 after that.

I think it was 9 years all up and he still has another 3 or 4 to go. His body is stuffed and there's no way they'll get the full value out of him. Surely the afl are paying for some of his contract though? No doubt they had a hand in getting him up there just like they did with getting coniglio to re-sign for 7 years with great waste of space.

Any one remember his first game when he arrived at Collingwood ( some one will put it up). Well from his first touch of the Sherrin he had champion written all over him

Polly Farmer who “invented “ the grab ball at ball up and hand pass whilst air born

This great man is doing it perfectly

Need to add this. Brody is an avid student of the game I wonder does he look at ruckmen of the past to add to his craft

Player contract negotiations can be quite complex, so it is pointless outsiders telling the club what it should or should not offer Brodie. If anyone heard Bucks on Talking Footy on Monday night, it's pretty clear that Brodie wants to stay with us and the club wants him to stay, for the rest of his career. Rest assured, it will happen, but the club has to juggle contracts for a host of players, so it can never be as simple as many fans might think. Fwiw, I expect a deal to be completed before the beginning of the 2020 season. Brodie will go on to become the greatest player ever to don the black and white, and will finish his career with numerous Norm Smith, Copeland and Premiership medallions.

He has a year to go on his current contract so some calm is required
Adelaide are a shit house organisation ATM with players wanting to leave.
Wait till after finals and sign up the rest of the squad
Remember in a few weeks time he could be a premiership player and if offered a shitload of money we can ask for a shitload of ist round picks

Fair points, RB, but let’s just say that I’d rather we sign him for too long and risk paying him for doing nothing for a season or two at the end than lose him immediately because we went too conservative and got massively outbid. Seven years might be too much, but I’d still consider that a pretty good deal if the alternative means him going to another club.

I hate to reveal ignorance, especially my own, & especially when I fully agree with the sentiment expressed… but I have to confess David, not having been around much of late, I saw your nice new Avatar & quite honestly, I thought read:
"Free Italian Sausage".

Now I feel hungry!
