Post subject: Record against top teams Getting better | |
|
Currently we are 4-2 against sides currently in the eight.
Losses to teams currently sitting 11,12 and 13th.
Four more games to come against current final 8 sides and 2 games against lowly Gold Coast and Melbourne also to come.
Need to win 3 against the other top 8, plus the 2 lowly teams.
If we get to 16, that will lock up a top 2 position. Four wins may see us slide to 3rd or 4th. Anything less will put top 4 position in jeopardy. |

We need to finish 2nd or 4th....not 3rd....to get our first final at the MCG. |

3rd may not be too bad, reckon we’d be confident against the Lions in Brisbane! |

We've got the best record against top 8 teams this year with a 7-4 record. Geelong next best on 5-3. |

And 2 of those against fellow top 4 on their turf! The GABBA and Half Brain Stadium
With arguably, the worst injury list in AFL/VFL history!

Geelong next best on 5-3 considering they didn't play any of Richmond, WCE, or the Pies twice, isn't all that flattering in the cold light of day, and they know it.
They'd want to be grateful Hawthorn didn't take Essendons spot in the eight too _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

After they thrashed Richmond at the bottom of Richmond's slump, they were 11 and 1. Since then, they have won 5 and lost 5. The 5 wins were 4 at Kardinia Park (Adelaide, St Kilda, North and Carlton) and one at the SCG (Sydney). The 5 losses were at Adelaide (Port), Docklands (Footscray), MCG (Hawthorn), Perth (Freo) and Brisbane (Gabba). So, their 5 wins since the bye have been against 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th and 16th. In fact, their only win away from Kardinia Park was against the team that finished 15th.
Even more tellingly, in 2019 their combined margin for all games at Kardinia Park is +377 (average of almost 42 points win per game) and their combined margin at all other venues is 145 (average of just over 11 points). They have, though, won 4 of 5 games at the MCG (the combined result is favourable to them - 21 points - but mostly because they smashed Richmond by 11 goals) - most importantly, they struggled to beat us (and probably wouldn't have, if our defence had been better at the end).
Our form was not fantastic in the last 10 rounds but we did win 6 and lose 4 and our 6 wins included wins against 3 teams in the 8 (West Coast, Footscray and Essendon). Our other wins were against 11th, 17th and 18th. |
