9. Harley Bennell:

OKAY OKAY OKAY! I know what the feedback might be on this one. Would it be worth doing a Sydney Stack (come for the Pre-Season and we decide in March supplementary list upgrades?). No trade needed as he is a delisted free agent and would be on minimum wages. Compare this potential "rent try buy" flexibility we have versus the Daniel Wells "pay me $550,000 for 3 years and I'll sign" arrangement. Worth consideration.

He would have to have big things put in his Contract to even start thinking of getting him

OPTIONS AND TARGETS:

It maybe impossible to solve all needs in one trade and draft period especially with bona fide champions. However, with al of the recent pre-trade speculation in the media, these players below seem gettable and help bridge the weaknesses we have. They all come with some baggage depending which side of the fence you sit on, but consider:

1. J.Jenkins:

Maybe

2. Mason Wood:

Maybe

3. Dan Butler:

Maybe

4. Jarrod Leinert:

Nup

5. Logan Austin:

Nup

6. Tom Cutler:

Nup

7. Ben Keays:

Related to Terry? Nup

8. Lewis Taylor:

Definitely nup

9. Harley Bennell:

Are you stark raving mad! Triple nup

10. Cam McCarthy:

Nup Nup

11. Jack Leslie:

Nup

12. Colin O'Riordan:

We've had enough of the Irish experiment.

13. Adam Tomlinson:

Maybe

Yep:

No coke, nightclubs, aeroplane trips nor advising reserves players

His calf is stuffed. What can you put in a contract for a stuffed body?

From all reports, Bennell has turned his attitude around, enough so a few clubs are interested to recruit him.
The issue is his calves, and we don't particularly have a good track record of fixing those. Come to Collingwood and his calves may actually fall off.

Moneyball Recruiting is fundamentally based around low risk, outlay with potentially high yield and returns. Just think for a moment. Brody Mihocek's minimum base contract this season is $110,000 plus $5,000 per match played. So essentially costing us $220,000 for 22 games played and contract. What did we pay? A Rookie draft selection at end of 2017. Jordan Roughead, would have a higher base and the same match payments cost us only pick 75. These two have been our Key Forward & Back's the whole season and shall likely snare top 10 places in the Copeland Trophy.

Great clubs such as the Swans, Hawks and Cats whom have won multiple flags over the last 15 seasons have expertly navigated this concept given the barren amount of first round draft picks. Think of these names:

* Dane Rampe : Rookie
* Tom Papley: Rookie
* Jake Lloyd: Rookie
* TomStewart: VFL Cats
* Tom Atkins: VFL Cats
* Nick Smith: Rookie
* Kieran Jack: Cat B Rookie
* James Worpel: Pick 41 Hawks
* Mitchell Lewis: pick 77 Hawks
* Ricky Henderson: Delisted free agent Crows
* James Sicily: pick 42

We have our own successes in this period, however we need to have list management team that looks at every angle and possibility and dare to be creative and take mitigated chances.

essentially not playing Seniors impinges match payments. A minimum contract is $105,000. A pre-season over Summer wouldn't hurt anyone. Reckon he'll get that at the Tigers as they have nothing to lose after the success of Sydney Stack.

Moneyball is about risk and making short term fixes to problem areas: for me Jenkins fixes a problem up forward given that we are in the flag window. He provides another forward presence that can either mark the ball or bring it to ground. He will improve us.
Tomlinson is a very good player and can provide coverage down back...especially given Moores continuing problems with injury and the imminent retirement of Reid. He is 27 with 120 odd games under his belt and a #9 draft pick...so has some serious talent.
The others in the list: nope...don't move the needle for us.

I suspect Sier will be offered up as part payment for one of these...probably GWS who would have more use for an inside mid bull than Adelaide...although given their clean out he could fit in there as well

Apparently a Geelong surgeon reckon's he's identified the problem and is positive he can fix it.

If it is fixed, he'd be worth a look at.

Shall be an interesting trade period. Got a gut feeling we may put Sier up.

can't see us getting a lot for him TBH, and you'd normally only offer to trade a player if you thought he was surplus to requirements or you'd get something equal or better from the trade.

I don't see either.

The Bombers loom plus Sier has performed exceptionally well in a Grand Final so would think that he has surpassed his original draft position of 32.

Fine piece inxs88, Mason Wood is a fascinating prospect.

Any mail on Griff Logue from Freo?
A talented tall defender / swing man ready to pop ?
Grunt down back to ease the Maynard load.

Essendon Sier trade - anyway to sweeten enough to get Francis ?

Cheers. Think Aaron Francis is nothing but a tease. Four years in the system and can't get his body right and lacks commitment. A 192cm Mason Wood could provide a difficult match up for other sides especially if playing alongside our current forwards.
