On the plus side, his calf can't be that bad if he is playing basketball! _________________ "To know nothing of events before your birth, is to forever remain a child" - Cicero (Roman Lawyer/Senator) 46 BCE.

Also, I like his maturity. Most twenty-somethings would have gone for "Phill McCrackin". |

God, what a lot of killjoys in that article! Clearly, he’s continuing a long and proud Collingwood tradition.
https://www.melbournehistoricalcrimetours.com/michaels-true-crime-blog/constable-bill-proudfoot
Quote: | The deteriorating reputation of the game prompted Chief Commissioner O’Callaghan to ban members of the police force from participating. Proudfoot defied the edict and played in the 1903 and 1904 seasons under the fictitious name of Wilson. His superiors were seemingly oblivious until a series of letters were written to the Chief Commissioner, including one reputedly from a member of a notorious Collingwood criminal family. Proudfoot was thus warned that that any further breaches would end in his dismissal. Eventually Commissioner O’Callaghan had a change of heart and authorised Proudfoot to play the game he loved. He would go on to fulfil a career for Collingwood which spanned from 1892 to 1906 and won him three premierships. |
Also went on to have a major supporting role in a Tom Hanks movie, I believe. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

gary and natan ablett were known for playing indoor soccer down in Geelong back in the day.
Nick Kyrgios (yes, a massive loose cannon!) has also been known to partake in some hoops while 'injured' _________________ Magpie Jumper Gallery:

I remember that back in the late 80's and early 90's there were a number of Collingwood players playing in a basketball team on their nights off.
Including Tony Shaw, Brian Taylor and Shane Morwood - from memory.
Played a couple of games of mixed indoor netball at the old Collingwood ICA with and against Heath Shepard when he was playing for us.
I get the levels of professionalism argument, but Jesus H Christ!! Cant we just give these adult men a break? He may have been risking injury but let him have a life and enjoy some time with mates AWAY from the footy club. No reports of him re-injuring himself or getting a new injury. Quite to the contrary I read a report that he only played 10-15 minutes so it actually sounds like he was making a number of smart decisions and managing his workload and injury risk accordingly.
This guy actually deserves praise heaped on him for the way he has conducted himself to get fit over the past 2 pre seasons with his trips to Thailand for Muay-Thai training in his own time at his own expense.
As you can tell I am a fan of this bloke and I hope he gets a good run at it injury free in the future. Lets take the pressure off him and allow him the opportunity to relax outside the club.
The other argument in his favour is that he wasn't doing any of the following -
Gambling
Gambling on AFL
Gambling on AFL games he is playing in
Drinking
Nightclub dancing (injury risk)
Taking illicit "recreational" drugs
Taking performance enhancing drugs
Taking mind altering drugs
Skydiving
Scuba diving (Shark risk)
Swimming across the Swan River
Drink Driving
Speeding
Evading Police
Stealing car parts
Assaulting anyone
Looking to move to Carlton
Snow Skiiing
Deep sea Fishing
etc
etc
etc |

Surely, the question people have is not with allegedly playing, but with allegedly playing while injured. |
