Tom Browne reports:

Surely the Club would be happy to sign him long-term. What am I missing?

No one is worth 5-6 years, especially a No 1 ruckman who is forced to ruck 90% of the game. The body can only take so much.

If another club is dumb enough to offer anyone 5-6 years, then good luck to them.

Really? I'd be offering Grundy 6 years every day of the week.
Reported $850k - that's cheap. You know other clubs will offer 6 years at $1.1M plus a season. Don't stuff this one up Collingwood.

Why not 6 years with a clause that injury related retirement only pays out remaining year + 1?

No idea why the club wouldn't jump at locking Grundy away for the rest of his career, he's a once in a generation type player. Great big men are hard to pick in the draft and almost impossible to trade for later. We got very lucky with Jolly and he cost us a fortune, lets not have to go down that path again while we have the best in the comp.

Yeah, I would do it. He's only just turned 25. Five or six years is perfectly reasonable. Why would we offer him only three? Do we want to lose him at his peak?

Didn't we give Taylor Adams a 5 year deal recently? As if we would give Taylor Adams a 5 year deal and not offer Grundy 5-6 years. Adams is important but easily replaceable. Grundy you just have to keep!

Travis was 25 when he made that contract. He had just turned 26 when he played his first game under the new contract the following year. He kicked 151 goals over the 4 years. As we know, he didn't trigger the fifth year.

Of course we had to make that contract. We had just played in back to back Grand Finals and a preliminary final. At the time, Travis had kicked 128 goals in the two preceding seasons. In the first year of his new contract, he took 190 marks (100 of them inside 50) and kicked 68.51 from 22 matches.

As I have said before, it was not Cloke's fault that the wheels fell off the football team while he was at his peak.

Agreed, I have no issue locking in Grundy for 5 years

Keeps him out of other clubs mits

How old was Trav Cloke when David Cloke got his mega deal, you mean. Wink

Sign whatever Grundy wants, Collingwood. Unless you think his manager is taking him for a ride.

That Cloke contract brouhaha still gets me the irripts. What a cock up of a season that was.

Dear Collingwood, Brody Grundy's don't grow on trees. They're a Nathan Buckley, Buddy, Wayne Carey. Do whatever you need to do to keep them at the club!

From this group, I'd like to see Greenwood given another year. I'd like to see Jamie stay, but if another club can offer him a better deal, I'd let him take it. Sier is an interesting one. We need that grunt in the middle, but if Essendon make a very good offer we should take it, providing Wills can do the job. I'd also be open to offering one of the older guys a rookie contract for a season, but not Reid.

All in all, we have no huge dramas from this group.

This group is a different story.

Crows are into Grundy, Bulldogs into Moore and Saints into Cox. Big offers will come to JDG too. 4 father-sons to take care of too.

Dear Mr Myagi, I'm pretty sure Collingwood understands the value and importance of Grundy to our team. I'm also sure they will be working feverishly to secure his long term future at the Pies.
