Lachie Whitfield just signed a 7 year deal with GWS (as did Coniglio in August).

I'm sure the media will dub it as a stroke of genius by the management at GWS.

Maybe it is. Maybe they came cheap. Wink

Dal Santo on SEN re Gundy:

“I’ve got some sort of concern with the Brodie Grundy seven-year deal. The position that he plays and the way that he exposes his body to get battered around, that’s just the life of a ruckman.

“I’m in no way saying that he is not worth a million dollars a year, he might be worth more in the current market, but seven years is risky for a ruckman.

“You are one contest away from a PCL, knees clashing, the way that they land and just the toll. I don’t know if there’s a position on the field that takes more toll than a ruckman.

“When you ruck you are jumping at someone all day, you’re wrestling, you get thrown to the ground, you just get mauled all day.

“Brodie Grundy has every right to ask for seven (years) and it looks like he’s going to get it and he’ll get his $7 million. But I’d be more comfortable giving Lachie Whitfield seven years knowing that the way he plays the game and the way he can adapt to multiple positions.”

That is why it is important for the Club to protect its long-term assets, by putting into place contingency plans and supportive back-up measures. More shared ruck responsibility, less dependence on one player, may assist longevity.

And there you have it.

GWS are awesome and Collingwood are dumb.

But if we let the Crows sign him on that deal, the Crows would be awesome and Collingwood would be dumb.

No matter the outcome, if he signs a long deal or leaves, the media will say Collingwood have made the mistake. Unless we win a flag of course.

Agree with your analysis of the prospective 7 year deal.

If the club doesn't offer 7 years, damn.
If the club does offer 7 years, damn.

Has any Nickster got a crystal ball that the club can borrow?

Are Adelaide or Port Adelaide, or any other club for that matter, willing to give him 7 years at a mil a season?

Time to step up Ed.....

You might be onto something with the next big high tech accessory.
The iPhone that comes with a toilet roll holder.
We wouldn’t need to stick the holders to walls anymore and we would never be caught short. I’ll get started on the patent.

It really is a long off season ! Any updates on Grundy ?
