So they should be favourites, there is nothing about Collingwood's performances this year that would give anyone an expectation they are the team to beat.

Did see an interesting stat how Geelong is on track with every recent premier in the key stats whilst Collingwood is struggling in some.

The biggest one which didn't surprise me at all was we are 9th or something on loose balls inside 50. We have to be the worst crumbing team in history, surely? On Monday Varcoe perfectly crumbed a pack 60m out from goal, yet when the ball hits the deck inside 50, there is no one there! I remember the Sydney game and when the ball hit the ground, Wells was running in the opposite direction!!!

Maybe the Bye is perfectly timed and we'll hit out straps in the 2nd half of the year, but there is a lot of improvement needed before you can seriously call Collingwood the team to beat

Absolutely agree with you about our inability to retain the ball inside our own forward 50. There is another stat that shows we are poor in stopping the oppositions defensive rebound.
If you want to win more games of footy, then keep the ball for longer in your own forward fifty. It’s a pretty simple game

We were similar favourites in 70 and beat the scum 3 times.
Say no more. May history repeat.

And in 2011 we were red hot too, only lost two games in the season. Finals are a totally different ball game, totally, anything can happen, and does. Surprised

We played them round one and we won’t play them again until finals ( assuming both clubs make it ) There is still so much to play out.
I think most clubs we play against, tend to set up defensively against our midfield. If I was an opposition coach, I know I would have my midfielders alongside the Collingwood mids.
The beauty of playing the Cats again is that they are probably one of the very few clubs who will trust their mid field to go one on one against ours.
I think it’s one of the few opportunities this year where our mids will be afforded a bit more latitude than when they play against lesser mid field collective.
When you’re sitting a couple games clear on top of the ladder, there aren’t many things you think you need to improve on.
Hopefully that will be their biggest mistake

We never really got closure from 2011 did we? And haven't played them in a final since. Would love another shot at redemption for that.
I'm still mildly agitated about the 2011GF, but that pales in comparison to the farce of 2018.

Tru that!

I’ve hated them even before that probably around 2007ish, their supporters are just arseholes and the club gets away with everything on and off the ground

Let’s just say I don’t think it started at the bombers!

Would definitely prefer that expectations of glory lie with Geelong rather than us. In fact, i think our situation is ideal right now. High in ladder position, but not favourite for the Premiership. I think we strike fear in the hearts of our opposition, because we are unknowable. It is clear that we have not produced our best so far this year. What in fact will our best look like, if and when it is unleashed?

I think we have the Cats covered. I'm more concerned in coming up with something different to beat West Coast. Over to you coaches.

Agree. I think WCE is the main threat to us. We have yet to demonstrate a method for defeating their game style. But I think we are in a better position than ever before to do so, given the presence of both Darcy Moore and Roughie in our defence.

Are you confident our coaching dept analyse WCE losses to other clubs, or are they too obsessed with our own so-called game-plan against them?

I'm really worried that they can't "read" any blueprints presented to them.
Guess we will find out in our next trip to Perth....

^ Yes, I think they certainly would analyse opposition games against highly ranked opponents. Following the eagles loss to port (in Perth) Bucks said they would like at how port went about it. The problem may be: how much does our own game plan have to change to do what port did, and does it take away too many of our strengths that compromises our chances of winning (ie. do we become weaker if we change style, and therefore gain nothing)? My opinion is "nothing ventured, nothing gained".
