How do you think we're going at the mid season point of 2019?

I would have easily taken 9 wins and 3 losses before the season started

Cheers W P T .

Very interesting numbers when they are used for good and not evil.

What it does show is how outstanding our defense ( and wingers ) has been this year.
To be 15th in clearances ( my favourite overrated stat ) and to conversely be 3rd in least opponents inside 50s and 5th in least opponents scores, is a glowing endorsement of our defensive structures.

The other concern that shows up from the numbers is that we aren’t very good at locking the ball in our forward 50 ( 12th in least opponent rebound 50s ) There is also another stat elsewhere that shows we are very poor at ground balls in our forward 50.
In a nut shell, if we don’t mark it, we aren’t very good at holding the ball in for a second crack. Having said that, we obviously mark it fairly often when we go in the first time.
This suggests the likelihood of Reid, Cox and Miochek all playing in the same forward line isn’t an option, statistically at least.

Great work WPT. It appears to me that, all things being equal, if we fix the clearances, we win the flag.

Or on the other hand, we would also improve by retaining the ball inside our own forward 50. Those stats show we get a good return when the ball goes in and we mark it but not so good when it becomes a ( ground ball ) contest.

We have been “ average “ in clearances all year but still sit second on the ladder.
Winning more clearances won’t necesarily guarantee you a higher score but retaining the ball longer in your own forward fifty not only guarantees the opposition can’t score but also the likely chance of a second or third crack at a score.
F W I W The Dees and the Eagles both won the clearances on the weekend ( 6 game round ) It didn’t help either of them by a long way.
And of course I would like us to win more clearances but I’m also pointing out there are other ways to skin a cat

Well we’ve managed to increase our clearance rating from 16th last year to now 15th. This is the area where the Eagles smashed us in the granny, so I hope have plans to rectify this glaring deficiency in our game in the 2nd half of the season. If not, then I fear we will end up with boiled lollies again instead of the scorched almonds we are all drooling over.

Give us supporters an idea of how each player perform,s

^ There are some great apps that give that information - my favourite is Footyinfo (Android and IOS). Updates as game is being played also.

Another ranking:

Niall says we're 2nd in average age in the season to date (just behind Hawthorn, who averaged 26.25 years).

If our list is getting old, we need flags now. Wink

These numbers clearly illustrate we most of us already know... there is plenty of room for improvement!
Sitting at 9-3 with these numbers means we have blue sky in front of us.

Which is interesting when you take into account the big favourite (Cats ) are playing out of their skin and one would think no improvement needed

We on the other hand only went down to them by 7 early doors and we have a lot of improvement needed but still second when we beat Doggies

An improvement yes is our task —-we can do it no doubt

It’s up to us
