Just curious as to how many of you here would participate in boycotting a round of football - as a form of protest - in response to the way they are treating its fans, and what an effective form of protest could be.

We as supporters have every right to sit and cheer, or jeer or whatever it is we choose to do so long as we're not physically hurting anyone in the process. Going off at an umpire as been going on for as long as the game has been played, as has booing.

We all come from different walks of life, backgrounds etc and should have the right to express ourselves without the threat of security and police hovering over us and monitoring our every move.

The recent fan ejections for allegedly unruly behaviour suggest that our rights are now being violated and that the afl are in the process of creating a sterile atmosphere that is under their full control.

Here are some suggestions for protest:

- Boycott a round of football
- Stop purchasing their overpriced food and beverage
- Fan protest march to the G
- Bombard the 'dob in antisocial behaviour' hotline with text messages all game
- Stand in protest
- Turn our backs on the game for 5 mins
- Chant anti-afl sentiment all game

It's our f***ing game - not theirs, and we risk losing it if we don't make an attempt to reclaim it.

None of those things will work.

How will you get 50,000 people, two sets of supporters, to do any of those things?

I agree with Presti. All futile suggestions (though I do like the idea of spamming the dob-in hotline!). The best I can recommend is, join the AFL Fans' Association (if you haven't already) and help to build it into a more effective lobbying group. In the meantime, if enough of its members feel like this is a serious issue of concern, they can lobby the AFL on it, put out a press release, do radio interviews, etc.

I do my own little boycotts (doesn't achieve anything of course) but I refuse to go attend the QB games anymore.
Sick of playing these flogs for their GF year after year on QB, go find yourselves another bunny!

My second boycott is kinda footy related.
Due to recent developments, I now refuse to allow my kids to play any match Summer or Winter against the Essendon Baseball Club, they're an affiliate of the EFC & I want nothing to do with them or their Club.

I like WarrenerraW's suggestions.

Would be most practical to boycott an away game at Telstra Dump, against one of the welfare clubs, and hit them in their ca$h register.

Again, how will you get the message through to everyone?

Out of 40,000 to 50,000 people that will be at Marvel Stadium, how many are going to care about this?

Has anyone actually witnessed a fan ejection?

Surely you'd get a loose gauge of interest through facebook and twitter etc?

all it needs is some social media and publicity. get the fans association involved. call SEN. it will work. pretty sure some victory fans did something similar and the A League backed off

The treatment of passionate fans is a joke. Clearly, the AFL and stadiums don’t want our patronage anymore. Fair enough. We can cancel our memberships and stop going and scream at the tv instead. Hope the broadcasters enjoy the emptying stadiums

Great post. Getting as many as possible to stand with their backs to the game at a specified time.
To be honest I’m one fan who is about sick of going, because of the constant bombardment of commercial noise pollution. The private school wankers like McLachlan have just about £$%$ed our game, so we should all go down fighting,,even if we ultimately lose.

I'm for it as they are arrogant and have been for a long time.

I made this suggestion in a thread back in Sept 2009.

A Supporters Association just like the AFLPA...

I go rarely now, despite having a reserved seat, because I just find the experience watching at home without having to travel and cope with all the bullshit, more enjoyable.

I can sit in comfort, eat and drink what I want with no queues or taking out a 2nd mortgage, have a smoke without having to walk half way to the next suburb and back and I don't have to stand up for 45 minutes on a train to get home.

And it's the first time in years I've been to QB. Stopped paying to see away games 7 or 8 years ago as I didn't want to give my dollar directly to smaller opposition clubs.
