maybe a little. Its sort of been an ongoing joke given the real anomaly of last year where it seemed we were never going to beat a top 8 team but beat every single bottom 10 team. since this year, the top 8 bottom 10 anomaly doesnt exist, i thought i'd clutch onto this final straw.

However, given that for me, success or failure this year will be measured in a binary fashion (i.e., we either win the flag or we don't), i do think the jury is still out on whether we have the upper echelon of teams covered.

No we don't have the top teams covered, but nor do I think that any of the other top teams (including the supposed all powerful cats) has all of them covered either. As we showed in last year's prelim, anything is possible in the finals.

Although I am, by nature, a pessimist and could scarcely be accused of having a rosy view of Collingwood's prospects, I do think that the loss to Geelong was just a matter of happenstance. I was surprised we lost that game after we stormed back to the lead - and if our defensive structures had been as we intended them to be I think we would have won. It was round 1 and - without in any way meaning to criticise any of the defenders - the first time we had fielded the new-look, radically-altered back structure with Roughead and Moore as its pillars. I am confident we would beat Geelong comfortably, now.

Not true. Two weeks ago, we beat the second-placed team on the ladder.

As the cream starts to rise to the top, 0-3 against the top 6 is not a good sign!

Well, at least we're not 0–5. The fact that two of those losses have been by single figures means we shouldn't be too concerned. And still a chance to go 3–3 with games against GWS, Adelaide and West Coast (again) still to come (presuming the top 6 actually holds, which I think is plausible). Lose all those and we'll actually have something to worry about. I'm not losing any sleep just yet!

This is untrue.
- Tigers were 5th
- Lions were 4th
- Dogs were 5th
- Port were 5th
- Bombers were 6th

We beat all these teams.

Yes we have lost to Cats, Eagles and not played GWS.
Let's see how we are placed later in the year.

i just double checked the ladder and none of them are in the top 6. Sorry, but you appear to be mistaken.

I was referring to the ladder at the time we played against them. Not their current position. Could it perhaps be that our victory moved them down the ladder?

No shit Shirlock?

I think your defense of the pies is weak on this one. Cream rises to the top.... Quality of a team is judged at the end of the season, not in round 2 when we play them...... For now, the best sample size we have of quality is ladder position today. Might change by the end of the year and we'll see whether we beat any of the teams in the top 6. As of now, nada, zip, none. 0-3. Damning!
