c'mon David, babylon bee is a satirical news site, not real news.

You know, like the Betoota Advocate, The Onion and The Guardian. Razz Wink

I'm well aware of that, Stui – the point is that the "joke" is based on a lie.

And other satirical news sites are based on truth?

Yes, of course. There's always supposed to be a grain of truth in satire; how the satire works is it creates a fictional scenario that plays on something factual. As a counterpoint, consider this Babylon Bee article currently on the site's front page:

https://babylonbee.com/news/tragic-footage-of-epstein-suicide-found-hanging-in-cell

The joke here is based on the fact that the security footage of Epstein's supposed suicide attempt was claimed to be lost, and is mocking how far-fetched the official story seems. Without that basis in truth, it doesn't make any sense and wouldn't be funny. On the other hand, the article posted on the previous page is based on the premise that Iran was shirking the terms of the nuclear deal it signed up to, and the humour is entirely dependent on the reader believing that that's the case.

Maybe I wouldn't usually get uptight about satirical news sites being shit (I wrote a whole rant about this on Facebook just a couple of weeks ago, incidentally!), but when that same lie and its consequences (the Trump administration's sabotaging of the nuclear deal, the heavy sanctions placed on Iran, the increasing tension in the region and of course the events of the past fortnight) nearly got us into a war, it's a bit harder to brush it off.

Better get onto Snopes, they love fact checking satire too.

This isn't satire, (It's not a Guardian link) this would be a deep breath.

^ Some useful analysis, but a fair bit of sabre-rattling thrown into the mix too (the writer is obviously from a neocon think tank). The stuff about ketman being a significant motivator of Iranian foreign policy sounds like bullshit to me.
