That's the way RudeBoy feels and he shared it with us. That's fair enough.
We all love Collingwood - that's what counts. |

This thread probably belongs in the Vic Park Tavern, but I'm glad it's not, because it's an opportunity to remind people about the heritage of the Collingwood Football Club, and what football meant to the people of the suburb of Collingwood once upon a time, when your team winning on Saturday afternoon was the highlight of an otherwise pretty shitty week.
Thanks to the Glorious Leaders at the AFL, our game has become popular all over Australia, and beyond, but also more homogenised and very different both on and off the field from those days.
Not so many generations ago, you didn't choose a football club to support - it chose you, because of where you grew up. Those days will never return and no cheer squad banner will every support one political party exclusively again.
Now we have loyal fans all over Melbourne, all over the country and all over the world.
But for the fans today that chose to support Collingwood for whatever reason, and become part of the Magpie Army, you should still respect the roots of our club no matter what other affiliations you choose to hold. That's our history and part of what made our club what it is today. _________________ https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/sav-sinks-the-dockers/ |

The Royal Commission also found that as AWU boss Shorten sold off his members to the big building companies. The companies payed money to union slush funds (instead of workers' pay rises) for ALP campaigns. Workers paid their unions dues and were f--ed over by Shorten so he can advance his political career. (Spit)
As for the rubbish that there is some traditional affiliation between Collingwood FC and the ALP, don't forget that the Pies had catholic roots i the early days. And the catholic Democratic Labour Party (DLP) kept the Australian Labour Party (ALP) out of power for over 30 years by splitting the working class vote and preferencing the conservatives.
And as for Shorten getting rolled - its possibly a blessing in disguise for the ALP (and us), given that the rape allegations Shorten faced in 2014 have resurfaced. Listen to Ben Fordam on 2GB interview Peter Faris QC last Thursday.
See: https://www.2gb.com/top-qc-urges-police-to-reopen-bill-shorten-investigation/
(scroll down to audio player and listen)
Paradoxically, it is the #MeToo movement (that Shorten's Labour so wholeheartedly embraced) and the changes to the evidence rules regarding how rape cases are tried in court that has led to Shorten facing police investigation once again. This time there may be no escape.
As a closing note, pay attention to the media air time given to Bill Shorten's wife. I suspect Chloe Shorten (daughter of our former Governor General) will be making a run for political power eventually, which was why she was riding on the coat tails of poor old Bill in the first place. (Bit like Michelle Obama springboarding off the back of her hubbie and taking a tilt for the US Presidency - oh wait, that hasn't been announced yet. Just wait a bit, it will).

Scomo likes his rugby league and good on him for it. I’m glad he didn’t do a Keating and adopt an AFL team as some cheap stunt to appease Melburnians.
Frank Galbally was top end of town (as shorten would put it) and was also died in the wool Collingwood.
Shorten reckons he’s a serious Pies man.
It takes all types to make a footy club.
Our president prides himself on his Broady upbringing yet resides in Toorak. One thing I will give him though, he’s done a great job with our club’s community work with the salvos etc. to make sure Collingwood does it’s bit for those who need it.
Not sure our club has changed for the worse as the title says. But that’s one mans opinion and we live in a free country so he’s entitled to express it. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

Everyone is entitled to hold their own opinion, usually informed by their life experiences. My story is different to Rudies so I don't feel the same way as he does, but he's entitled to hold and express it. Some will agree, some won't.
I grew up in country NSW, never had the opportunity to grow up watching games at Vic Park as a child and I don't relate politics to the club in any way.
Every Collingwood supporter has their own story and their own views and feelings as well as political opinions and religious beliefs. What we have in common is Collingwood and that's enough for me. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Back when our working class roots meant something and we were based at Victoria Park, I recall our banner on an election day back in the early 70s reading "Labor and Collingwood On To Victory".
We are no longer black and white, but are becoming something more of a blancmange. |
😂😂😂 the 70’s. Was that even this century?

It has a lot to do with our history but not a lot to do with our present.
It’s good to know where you came from though. If you want to understand where we came from Read some of the excellent books about our history or read Frank Hardy’s ‘Power without Glory’ based (not so) loosely on John Wren; a notorious Collingwood supporter who was a self made man with plenty of dosh who never forgot his Collingwood roots and looked after our players and many of the strugglers from the area. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'
