Carlton hate goes back longer than AFL —way back into VFL

As a 79 yrs old I recall when we had beaten everyone more than they had beaten us except Blues at the time 63-62 in our favor

When they beat us in 1979 George Harris with Malcolm Frazer at his side in front of Carlton faithful “We beat Collingwood—what better than beating them by a point-4 points”
We kicked their arse and they won’t win a flag for another 20 years”

Essendon - probably a more recent rivalry and one that all current supporters should appreciate - especially with ANZAC Day.

Melbourne - what happened during the late 50's early 60's.

Hawthorn - recent hatred by virtue of the fact that since the the 1980s we have struggled against them. In fact, over the past 50 games against every team, our record against the Hawks is the worst 17 - 33.

Bris / Geelong - equal hatred - teams that have cost us premierships because we've come up against them when they were in the midst of their dynasties.

1953 we played them down at Geelong and they hadn’t lost a game in 26 encounters—-we changed that stuck it right up them

Come 53 Grand Final we kept pace in reserve then belted them
