please feel free to call me crazy, does Bucks put Reid back at the start and put Darcy Moore forward and interchange them? giving one or other the job of pitch hitting in the ruck when Grundy is resting? |
Why would he do that?/He's clearly stated that Darcy will be the CHB and Reid will play forward when he's in the AFL. As well as Bucks already stating that Reid has done ruck work in the VFL side so it will be like for like. |

How so Rude? Wet Toast beat us up with 3 tall forwards, both this year and in the Granny. Geelong have 2 talls. Essendon have Daniher and Brown. Adelaide, Port, Freo all have 2 or more talls. We are actually in the minority by not having 2 talls playing forward. |

Big Ben has been clunking marks consistently in VFL which is a plus part of his
CV
My opinion only but out of Reid,Cox and Checkers I’d back Reid to pull marks
more regularly that the other two _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

Or Reid stays and Mihocek goes back to the VFL. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Mihocek's spot is not in question imo. He provides energy, physicality, movement and marking power, like no other on our list. |

Mihocek has the support of the coach, who recently spoke about all the things he does that don't get much notice. The worry is that it looks like he does much better against weak opposition (e.g. Brissy). His finals series was mediocre at best. The question is whether he can improve and make an impact when it matters.

A fit Cox walks in to the side... always. |

More concerned about who will help give Brodie some relief in the ruck against Ryder and Lycett.
If Reid comes in - do we look at utilising Roughhead some ruck minutes and swing Reid back when this occurs? |

Agree 100%, Rudey.
Glad to see others recognise the importance of Mihocek. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

Really looking forward to seeing what Reid can do with the freedom of movement and less close checking that comes with playing ruck. His marking and field kicking should be a highlight.
A bit like Mihocek's move from defence to attack revealed a gem, could we see a brilliant twilight of his career?
BTW, and in the context of Reid's injury history, is it stupid to be getting comfortable with seeing Darcy and Billy playing regular AFL games? |

Mihocek is a classic "good-ordinary" player of the kind that costs flags. He plays the most important position on the field and routinely lowers his colours against good teams. So, last year, eg, he kicked half his season goals in just 4 games against sludge - North Melbourne, Fremantle and Brisbane. This year, he's kicked three quarters of his goals in 2 games (Richmond, his best game by far for the season, against a weakened defence that hadn't adjusted to life without their best player, and Brisbane). He's been generally poor in our other 4 performances this season. He probably "could have been" the difference in last year's qualifying final, if he'd kicked straight, but he wasn't - and he had no significant impact on McGovern's defensive game.
It's not his fault - he is a great trier, always brings his best game and applies himself well, week in and week out. He just isn't really a star and the job description for CHF in a top-flight AFL team requires a star.
The Ben Reid of 2010 would be a huge upgrade on Mihocek and - were that Ben Reid available - there would be no serious question of playing Mihocek in the seniors, save as a fill-in. As things stand, though, we have no outstanding tall forwards (though Cox is structurally important) and Reid is now so slow that he will be exposed badly going the other way by the best teams (and he is increasingly brittle, physically, to the extent that it worried me deeply that he was our best player in last week's reserves game because it is difficult to see him making it through a full AFL game, now), so we make do with what we have.
Mihocek is, I suppose, "important" in that there is no-one else on our list who looks like they can play the second tall forward position competently but I'd prefer that we had someone playing in that position who is "important" because they are a "great player". He certainly isn't that. |
